Ellie - Help Me Out...Please By Ateam
Ateam has created a wonderfully creepy room escape game with Ellie - Help Me Out...Please. All the staples of a great room escape game are here, with the added bonus of it feeling like a Japanese horror flick.
The gameplay of Ellie works like the usual room escape game, only you instruct Ellie to do things for you, since you're watching her through a monitor. If you want her to examine something, you simply tap on it and she will explain (in Japanese with English subtitles) what she's found. She is looking to you for help escaping this cell, so you need to come up with all the ideas for her. This works really well and gives it more depth than the escape games that simply put you in a room and have you tap on items. The interactivity with the little girl makes it more interesting.
Some of the puzzles are challenging and hard to figure out, but even if you have to refer to a walkthrough, this is a game worth finishing.
The art of Ellie is in 2D and looks like a graphic novel. It's drawn well, from the little girl to the monitors through which you watch her. The drawings really capture the dark and creepy mood that the game wishes you to feel. The soundtrack also helps pull you in, as it's haunting and eerie. It also captures the mood perfectly, and I can't imagine the game without it.
Ellie - Help Me Out...Please also offers more replay value than many games of the genre. There are multiple endings, both good and bad, and you'll want to replay it to see them all.
Ellie is a free game and definitely worth your time. If you get too frustrated with the puzzles, here are some tips to help you out:
1. Make sure you get her organizer before opening the drawers. To do this, have her inspect the drawers in the left screen. While she's distracted, turn to the right screen and pick up the organizer. Without it you won't be able to complete the game.
2. If you're having trouble with the code for the drawers, focus only on the top two numbers you found. If the numbers you got, when compared to the poster, show a short line, that represents "Left." If you see a long line, that represents "Center." From the numbers you have, you will get a sequence made up of six "Left" and "Center."
I hope that helps you out. This can be a challenging game. But stick with it, because the endings are worth seeing.
