Review: Rage Does Everything Right, But Not Much Else

ID Software has come a long way. They became a household name in 1992 with the release of a little title called Wolfenstein, and have since become synonymous with the first-person shooter genre. Prolific titles such as Doom and Quake set the standard for innovative, unique, and fun games, and allowed for a relatively small company to reach a large audience.

In a time where FPS (first person shooter) games are a dime-a-dozen, id Software took it upon themselves to create a game that would simultaneously fill all the necessary quotas, but also reach outside the box. That mindset gave birth to RAGE, a post-apocalyptic shooter that, for better or worse, does exactly what it's supposed to do. The graphics are gorgeous while running at 60 frames-per-second, and the weapon selection is acceptable, though some may find it a tad sparse when compared to other games in the genre.

The selling point for RAGE comes in the form of vehicular combat. Players are able to acquire vehicles through races, bets, and quests, and subsequently outfit them with an array of weapons and gadgets. If guns on your car isn't your thing, you're more than welcome to invest in a beefed-up grill to ram your opponents into pieces. But whatever you decide, you will never feel like you are selling yourself short.

Unfortunately, for all of the things that RAGE does well, it never really reaches beyond the typical confines of the average FPS. It is very much an on-rails shooter, and, except for the moments when you're in a vehicle, you'll never feel like you're free to do whatever you want. From the very beginning of the game, the paths are linear, and the item needed to finish a whatever quest is in progress is always straight ahead. This eventually becomes repetitive, especially when the enemies being fought look and sound exactly the same.

This is not to say that RAGE isn't fun to play - it is. However, some players may yearn for the open-world feel of a game such as Borderlands, which, much to id's chagrin, RAGE has been compared to liberally. What ultimately makes this game stand out is that, at its core, it has "id Software" written all over it: the bosses are huge, the enemies are disturbing, the guns are crazy, and most importantly, there is a ton of fun to be had.

There are obvious myths about this class. People think that Snipers are only strong at long-ranged combats, and weak at other type of combats.

Tell you what guys. Once you master this class, you can be powerful at mid-ranged. Heck, it'll be more easy for you to target mid-ranged enemies than far-distant. Just make sure that your aims are next to perfect and bang! There goes your enemy lying dead on the floor in 1 shot only. Mastering this with a sniper is much better than using any other gun.

The only weakness that we see with the Recon Kit is when you use it in short-ranged combat. Here, you should might as well pull out a pistol if you are very near to your enemy or are chasing down someone from behind. You don't even have to aim the pistol. You can just fire from the hip and strafe so that you're not taken out yourself. As you know that pistols are not very precise while aiming even if your enemy is close, so don't expect a head shot.

NOTE: If you're playing Battlefield 3 on PC, this class is very very strong at close-ranged combats. You'll be able to get 1-hit kills with Sniper Rifles at close ranges although it would be very hard to hold down the sights and get a shot off with a controller. On PC, you can easily shoot accurately without aiming precisely, of course with the help of the control a mouse offers!

In addition to their superior skills, snipers also get access to some of the best gadgets in the game like the Tactical Unmanned Ground Sensor (T-UGS). When you put it on the ground, it'll search for players standing nearby. Meaning that it won't find out players who are crouched or prone.

Lastly, Radio Beacon is another useful item for Recon class. You can use it on nearly any map and game mode. Depending on your game mode, it allows your team to respawn where you place it. You would want to place this at a space spot, close to the action. This avoids players from respawning at unsafe places or even far away from where you actually want them.

Like any other class, the majority of the points you gather will be from hunting down the enemies. If you happen to kill your enemies with a T-UGS, you'll get a few bonus points! Meaning that if you enter in a crowded area, you'll gain a lot of bonus points in a very short amount of time.

Like we talked earlier, the Recon Kit really stands out in mid to long-ranged combat. If your players are moving, you must have a Bipod equipped if you want to shoot them out comfortably. Otherwise make sure to let your team know by marking your enemies out so that they can hunt them down if they are near your enemies.

If you want to engage in long-range combat, you must account for [bullet drop]. It means that you have aim ABOVE the players instead of directly at them. It's mainly for very-long shots and you aim only about a half-a-crosshair up for it. Of course, this depends on the attachments and weapons that you use!

The best of the Recon players mainly keep on pushing up and don't like to stay prone sniping all the time. If you practice very well, you can start getting 1-shot kills. The trick lies in the fact that you have to move your view into an approx. area of a player before you aim. This way, when you aim, you'll be already on top of them and won't have much (or none at all) adjustment to make to get the kill count rising. The pros are able to do it very efficiently; in less than a second. All you need is a lot of practice. Don't give up!

Talking about T-UGS, as a Recon player you must keep T-UGS sensors down in the right areas. Not only will this mark where the other players are, but simultaneously you will earn a lot of points. Moreover, don't forget to mark as many players as possible because some might be a bit further up and you wouldn't want to lose them.

As it depends on situation and the game mode, some Recon players can be busy with keeping a Radio Beacon up as their main task. Radio Beacons are great in rush mode. They are also damn good in the maps where respawn points are unsafe or you're randomly summoned.

Here comes the deadly strategy - You should get caught in close-range combat. Now, you must pull out your pistol and start using it properly. Mind you, that pistols are far stronger than what others would think, specially if your aims are correct, or you can strafe or get the jump on your enemy.

The Recon Class is very good in Battlefield 3. They should never be sitting back and sniping. If they do, they'll have the worst kill:death ratio. The pros are always moving here and there, being able to aim and shoot very fast.

Battlefield 3, Better Than Modern Warfare 3?

With so many first person shooters out there and so little money to work with I have to be very picky in which one I select to buy. I have been playing Call of Duty Black Ops for a while now but certain aspects of the game just started to annoy me after a while. First off is the size of some the maps is too small. While there are a few bigger maps in the game it still left me feeling a bit boxed in. Another is some of the perks and kill streaks give your opponents too much of an advantage. Lastly is there seems to be no sense of teamwork. Everyone on your team wants run off Rambo style only concerning themselves with their own kill/death ratio and only wanting to play team death match over and over.

Then Battlefield 3 is released. While the single player campaign is average the heart of the game is the multiplayer. These are some expansive maps. Unless you can hop into a vehicle or respawn on one of teammates you will running a lot. There are three modes to choose from in multiplayer.

Conquest, probably the best mode, is where you and your squad capture and control flags on battlefield. If one side controls more than half of flags on the field the opposing team will bleed respawn tickets. The match ends on a team's respawn tickets drop to zero.

Rush mode is where one team must attack a base and plant a bomb while the other team must defend that base. The match ends if all bases are destroyed or a team's respawn ticket count drops to zero.

Team deathmatch is also part of the but I believe you are only cheating yourself playing that mode.
There are four different classes of soldiers to choose from, each with their own set of skills and abilities.

The Assault class is one of the most versatile classes in the game. You can play offensively or defensively with this soldier. Equipped with heavy weapons, grenade launchers, and the ability to heal and revive members of your team makes this class an easy favorite.

The Engineer class is also one to watch out for. Engineers have the skill to repair and damage vehicles either using their tool kit or by using different types of rocket launchers.

The Support class allows you to keep your teammates supplied with ammo at all times. Also by using their LMG's they are very handy in suppressive fire.

The Recon class is for you sniper lovers. Not only with you be collecting headshots but you an also set up spawn points on the battlefield for your squad. You can also earn points for sighting an enemy.

All of the modes and soldier classes to choose from is why enjoy Battlefield 3 and did not bother with Modern Warfare 3. New maps will be released in December so I cannot wait for that.

Battlefield 3 M16A3 Guide

In this Battlefield 3 M16A3 Guide, not only we will be discussing about the overview of this Assault Kit starting weapon but we will also compare it with AK-47M rifle and what all attachments you can use along with M16A3 to maximize the efficiency.

Battlefield 3 M16A3 Overview

Magazine: 30 rounds

Rate of Fire: 800 RPM

Faction: USMC

Fire Modes: Automatic (default) and Semi-Automatic. Note: For some reason in the beta test, the tooltip shows that it can be set to burst mode, but the game does not actually let you switch to it. Not sure if the bug is in the tooltip or the bug being not able to switch to burst.

If you compare this weapon with the entire starting lot, this classic M16A3 is the most weak weapon you will ever find. It is weaker in single-shot fights as compared to the AK-74M in long-ranged battles (because M16A3 has a quicker firing rate with less effective shots) and is probably even worse at firing multiple bullets at once than the M416, which has far less recoil.

What we would recommend you is to use M16A3 only at the beginning until you get weapons as you level up and grow stronger.

Battlefield 3 M16A3 vs AK74-M

As we mentioned earlier, the M16A3 surely fires rapidly than the Ak-74M, but its less effective on a bullet-by-bullet comparison. In short-ranged battles, this makes M16A3 stronger than the other counterpart as it makes the gun more effective at firing from the hip.

AK-47M scores more than M16A3 only when you turn off automatic firing, but not much.

BF3 M16A3 Strategy & Attachments Guide

Technically speaking, M16A3 is one of the worst weapon to be used in Battlefield 3. No doubt M416 is far better at firing multiple bullets at once. And then, the kickback is also far much less with that weapon. You can easily shoot 5 times in a row (or maybe more), that too accurately from a fair range. M16A3 has much more kickback effect.

You can get into the semi-automatic mode with M16A3 by pressing down on the directional pad. When firing one bullet at a time, you are bound to reduce the kickback effect greatly. If you want to increase our accuracy, put on a heavy barrel. But don't forget that you won't be able to hunt down your enemies from a long range in 1-2 shots easily. In this case, AK-74M is slightly better for the task. But then, honestly speaking, both the guns are bad as their accuracy level is damn low from a very far distance.

For long-range battles, M16A3 blasts off enough bullets with least kickback effect where you can take down players with enough comfort. However we would suggest you to use a submachine or a shotgun when involved in a short-range battle.

In order to use this gun like a pro, you have to be a pro in deciding when it would be the best time to shoot an enemy from a distance, sneak up on them, or simply mark them and move on to your next enemy. One strange thing about this weapon is that it is not newbie friendly and still added in the starter edition. We feel that the M416 weapon is a much better option as a starter weapon because it is much easier to master one part of the game at once (close range, mid range and long-range battles etc) than trying to take on everything together.

Battlefield 3 M16A3 Guide Conclusion

M16A3 is not an easy weapon to use as a starter. It just fairs well at all the ranges of the game but is strong at none. You will always run into trouble at any time. It is strong against Recon but weak against Engineers at close-combat. It is strong against Engineers and Weak against snipers at long-range battles.

You have to figure out your enemy's class and engage them in the most advantageous way if you really want to win the battles when using M16A3.

Battlefield 3 Support Class Guide - Overview, Strengths, and Weaknesses

You will be using Support Kits to obviously support other player. If your team is worth backing up and well-coordinated, this is the class you would want to go for. It won't be that good to use this class if you are playing random pick-up games or when you have a very disorganized team.

This class utilizes light machine-guns which lack accuracy from a distance but can deal with a lot of low-damage bullets. You can use this very well for Suppression Fire at long distances and to take down enemies at mid-ranges. Don't even think of using it for short-range combats. You'll be dead in no time.

Weaknesses of this class lies in short and long-ranged fights. If you're playing a support class, you should be standing between Engineer/Assault players and Recon players. This way you can drop Ammo Kits on either side and also use your light machine-gun properly to attack enemies behind fortified targets.

Battlefield 3 Support Kit Guide - Leveling Tips

You will get 50 points whenever any of your teammate hunts down a target that you are suppressing with target fire. This reduces your workload by half. This way you can make a bank out of the points by using Suppression Fire combined with your large ammo clip.

Another way to earn points is by dropping Ammo Kits to your teammates whenever they need. You drop Ammo Kits with the help of directional pad left button. Everytime you drop Ammo Kits from the pack, you are rewarded with points (double points for squad members). Pile them up!

Support class need not indulge in direct kills. They can easily earn a lot of points through Ribbons, Suppression Fire, Kill Assists and Dropping Ammo Packs. You must pay due importance to this because you don't really require a high Kill:Death ratio to be an effective support player. But make sure that you avoid as many death penalties as you can.

Battlefield 3 Support Kit Strategies

As we talked just now, Support Class can really be good with providing Ammo Packs. The most exciting part of this is that not only you refresh the ammo amount among your teammates, but you also get access to extra explosives along with it. Which can really be beneficial.

Lets take a good example. Support you are on Rush Mode and you and your team happen to lose your first set of objectives. Here, you and your teammate with C4 can start destroying all the covers leading to the next set of objectives. Throw C4 all over the objects, trees on the map and then blow them up. And then, throw down an Ammo Pack so that your teammates can be re-supplied.

This way, your enemies can barely get a place to hide and hence, will have less chances of advancing to the next objective. Now that they won't have any cover, they have to face head-on which is totally suicidal for them. This is because your Recon and Assault Players can easily hunt them down as and when your enemies run across the map.

Suppression Fire

Support class is really good at Suppression Fire. However, due to the low accuracy provided by the bullet, it won't be able to hunt down enemies from long distance unless they have been standing out in an open area for quite some time. Don't forget that your guns have a high fire rate with a lot of ammo inside each.

How is it advantageous to you? Imagine an instance where you are on Operation Metro on the offensive side and you are aiming for the 3rd objective. However the enemy is securely placed in the hallways at the back of the building. Here, you can start spraying on the enemies camping area with your machine-gun.

Obviously you won't be able to hunt them down totally but at least you can make them run for cover. During this time, your Assault Kit team can move forward and try to move the opponents or get in a proper position to secure the objective. And as far as it goes for your Engineers, they will be having a lot of time to aim with their Rocket Launchers to shoot down the enemy cover (or even get close enough to plant C4)

Battlefield 3: The Review

As most of you, I have been awaiting this moment, to finally get my hands on BF3 and so far it's been pleasant. Although I have not gotten a chance to play online (don't rub it in), I have played the campaign. Most of you have probably forgotten and are probably wondering what that is, well it is the story part of the game that you play offline, now that that is clear, let's dive in.

The Good

Field of Battle

Let's start with the positive's: First, the game is beautiful and running around the maps was a lot of fun. The game had this fresh feeling through out from just the scenery and environment. I was truly happy with the stages, they were big, beautiful and very detailed. One thing I was very, very fond of was the sound design. The sound design is better than I have seen in any game before. Each shot you take, you can hear the crack of the bullet and depending on where you are, the appropriate echo as well, followed by the casing hitting the ground, and even the casings had there own individual sounds. Not only is it the guns that sound great but things from footsteps and yelling to planes flying over and tanks blasting away, everything sounded great.

Another great addition to this game was Frostbite 2.0. Frostbite 2.0 is an engine that has been improved upon that made the whole experience way better. In every shooter (and really any game, 'cause it's fun) I yearn for an environment that is destructible in all the best ways. With this news engine you can shoot and breakdown the cover that your enemy hides behind, break down the guard of the sniper picking you and your teammates off, or you can just blow big chunks of the wall out, see your enemy standing right in front of you and then proceed to blow big chunks out of them. Be ware, any thing you can do, so can the enemy.

Enemy

Speaking of, I thought the game provided a good challenge. The enemy A.I. was pretty well developed and pretty skilled as well. like i said, anything you can do, so can they. If you can shoot through a crack in your defense, so can they. They seem to be pretty aware also, so if you think you're going to take every one out peacefully from where you're hiding, now is a good time to rethink that. Going along with that same thought, if you get too close, many an enemy will try to melee you till you stop moving. I thought they did a good job of getting you too keep your distance at times and letting you get in close at others, I'm g;ad because every one knows how fun melee-ing can be.

This is one of those games that just has several things right. For instance, I have played games where I can take a barrage of ammo to the face and still be alive, oppositely, I have also played games where I have been killed by a graze in the arm, this game has what I think is a really decent view on the subject that is reflected in the game. It only takes four or five good tags and you're out.

The Not So Good

Now for some of the negatives: The story, I personally liked, but it could have been a lot better. It could have done with out the confusing aspect of who is who (which you can also read about in the link above) which, honestly, I get from just about every war game. I don't know what it is about guns, death, and explosions that make me forget who people are, but like I mentioned before, the story is probably not why you're going to buy the game.

PC Games - E3 2012 - Battlefield 3

Through out the game you get to play as a few other people as the main character Lt. Blackburn, who is being interrogated, recalls the events. The problem I had was that none of the different people, felt any different, there was no definitive separation between them besides the name, which you quickly forget. A few of them seemed to only be there to give you a chance to do things, like the girl (forgive me for not having a name) who flies co-pilot in the air combat section. The only other issues I encountered was the game being pretty glitchy. It froze on me a couple of times and lagged it several spots.

The Rest

Now, as I said, I did not get to go online with it if you would like to read about online play (which is probably why you got the game and reading this review, oops, sorry) but all hope is not lost. "With all that said, any fan of the franchise knows that Battlefield is not about the campaign. The series is all about playing with other people in huge online skirmishes that involve every aspect of warfare imaginable, and Battlefield 3 is no exception. The multiplayer encompasses both the familiar competitive mode and a newly added mission based two-player co-op mode. Co-op is similar to Modern Warfare 2's Spec Ops mode, but instead of numerous bite-sized tasks, Battlefield 3 offers six more involved and complex missions. They're fairly length and highly varied in objectives, and have enough randomization to them that playing more than once isn't a chore. Don't expect them to be pushovers, either, because they do not skimp on the difficulty. Even on normal, you will not simply walk through them. Best of all, experience gained and weapons unlocked in co-op counts toward your overall multiplayer profile. Given how important unlocks can be in the competitive arena, co-op can be used as a valuable place to XP grind a bit in relative peace.

Competitive multiplayer will be familiar to veterans of the series. Two teams go head-to-head on any of nine new maps. The classic Battlefield game type Conquest returns, in which teams try to control flag points in order to score points and deplete the enemy team's reserves by "bleeding" their ticket count down to zero. The more points you control, the faster the bleed rate. Bad Company's Rush mode has also been transplanted over, which sees the teams battling over pairs of M-COM targets. One team defends them, one team attacks them and tries to plant explosives on the M-COMs. If both are destroyed, the defenders fall back to a new pair until they either run out of fallback positions or they reduce the attackers' reserves down to zero. Other permutations are present, such as Team Deathmatch and squad-based variants of Conquest and Rush, but you'll find that the vast majority of players stick to the main two gametypes.

Both primary gametypes are great, and at this point DICE has them honed to a fine art when it comes to designing their maps to support both. After many hours of play, I have yet to find any real bottleneck points in any of them, and they all feel nicely distinct from one another. The phenomenal Frostbite 2 tech lets almost any structure be damaged to the point of just leaving a skeleton standing, and there's little more satisfying than blowing the wall out from in front of that sniper who's been harassing your squad for the last few kills."

All in all, Battlefield 3 is a great war-style game and has a fantastic multiplayer ( so I've heard). It is one of the most realistic and beautiful games I have played and has a lot of great features that do nothing but compliment the actual gameplay. Oorah.

It's a definite "get" and I think a lot a people are going to be very pleased.

Review - Assassin's Creed: Revelations

It's been a while since I've had a game to review, but I was able to get my hands on a copy of Assassin's Creed: Revelations recently, so without further ado, here's the review.

Score: 9.5/10

Recommended?: With honors.

To start with, I think it's fair I let any readers know that I love the Assassin's Creed series. I've played them all, and I think Ubisoft has done a phenomenal job with every title. I don't give the game such a high score because I like the series though, the game really is worth the score. I always do my best to remain unbiased by past games in a series, and give each a stand alone review.

After the events of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Desmond falls into a coma. While the group flees the Templars once more, Desmond is put into the Animus, and must sort through the last of Ezio Auditore's memories, so he can separate his own consciousness from Ezio and Altair. Both Ezio and Altair make appearances in the game, though the majority is played during the later years of Ezio's life.

The game play is similar to previous series, with all the climbing, jumping, and air assassinations intact. What really shines though is the new elements added to this game. I don't want to spoil all of them for readers, but let's just say there's a lot of completely new moves, and even existing ones have been tweaked and upgraded. On the downside, and part of what keeps this game from getting a perfect score, is the absence of certain other features that I think belonged in the game. Players may decide for themselves.

The story is really rich. There is a slew of new faces, but they fit into the universe and story that has been crafted thus far. Many questions are answered, including a lot of the hidden past that has slowly been revealed through other games. I won't say too much, but I've beat the game, and even with all the answered questions, there is still more Assassin's Creed to come. Revelations, though definitely a full game, was almost like a big stop-over, since virtually all of it takes place in the Animus.

One other thing that keeps this game from getting a perfect score is it did have some pretty noticeable glitches. Sometimes after I killed guards, the arrows over their head didn't disappear (which really throws you off when you're trying to sneak around). Also, the thieves sometimes would not steal from bodies, or two of them would glitch out and appear around the level as I ran, while the other two acted normal. Each of these two things I experienced multiple times, so it wasn't some kind of isolated incident. There were also errors in the subtitles, and as someone who loves subtitles, it annoys me.

Multi-player has been tweaked, kind of on the fence about that. It's still fun, make no mistake, but I'm not sure if I like the system in Brotherhood or Revelations more. Like I said, still fun, so no problem.

Overall, this game was a blast. I took it to 100% sync, unlocked the platinum trophy, and I still wish I had more. That should give you an idea of how good the game is. Of course, if you've played the series, I probably don't have to tell you it's good. If not, play them! They are a lot of fun.

Review Of Battlefield 3 - A Game Of Highs And Lows

Battlefield 3 is the last in the long line of modern day military shooters, which was popularized by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It's been hyped as the new king of the hill, and EA has very deliberately positioned it up against Call of Duty, with the marketing tagline being "Go beyond the call" (Subtle, guys. Real subtle).

Now the game is here, ready to impress us with gorgeous graphics, a compelling campaign and orgasmic multiplayer madness. Or that is what the hype would have you believe at least. Read on to find out if Battlefield 3 is going to leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling of delight, or the unpleasant buzz of frustration.

With the PC being my gaming weapon of choice, buying Battlefield 3 has meant that I have also had to get EA's new Steam competitor, Origin.

Origin has gotten a lot of hate from the general gaming community, and I feel that a lot of it is really just knee jerk reaction hate towards not being able to get your games from Steam anymore. But I will say that Origin does not feel as fully thought through as Steam does. After downloading and installing Battlefield 3, I got a nice little shortcut icon on my desktop.

Clicking on that shortcut however, does not simply launch the game and take you into the world of crashing jets and fragging newbies. Instead Origin starts up and goes into your game library, where it then automatically starts up Battlefield 3. Then you are taken to the "Battlelog" page, which is the browser interface that Battlefield 3 uses to present your multiplayer stats, and which you will also use to select singleplayer, co-op or multiplayer. That process seems a bit fiddly, but I do actually like the easy tracking of all your stats that is available from Battlelog.

I started out with the campaign. From the clips that Dice have been showing off, it looked like the campaign was going to offer a great thrill ride, letting us drive tanks in the desert, participate in a large scale attack on Teheran, and generally feel like we were in the middle of a war zone. Something that has been the trademark of the Battlefield multiplayer experience ever since Battlefield: 1942.

So have Dice managed to create the next step in military shooter campaigns?
In one word: No.
In a few more words: Not even close, buddy.

Now, the game looks amazing. Really incredibly fantastic, if you're playing on a fairly beefy PC. And for the first couple of campaign missions you'll be too busy drooling over the visuals to really notice that nagging sense of deja vu that slowly starts spreading from the back of your head. But soon it becomes all too apparent that the campaign of Battlefield 3 has nothing to offer you that we have not already seen in Modern Warfare 1/2. In fact I would say that the Modern Warfare series does a better job of creating interesting set pieces that continually makes you go "holy hell that was cool!". The campaign in Battlefield 3 has too few of these moments, and ironically my favorite moment, launching off an aircraft carrier in a storm, is actually not even a sequence where the player has any control.

Oh, and then there are quick time events. Terrible terrible quick time events. They feel horribly forced down into the throat of the game, and stick out like a transvestite with a beard at a girl scouts meeting. The sequences usually last maybe 20-40 seconds, and through that time you may be required to press anywhere from one to three buttons, so it's really just watching a (bad) cut scene with the occasional button prompt.

One positive note on the campaign is that it does a great job of showing off many different environments, from the open deserts to the cramped city streets, and through lush fields and forests. It helps keep some variety going and at least you are looking forward to seeing the next level, just for the sake of seeing the setting.

Overall then, if you're playing alone, then there is little reason to pay any heed to Battlefield 3.

But any long time follower of the Battlefield series should know that the heart of a Battlefield game is in the multiplayer. And this is certainly also the case with Battlefield 3.

There is another attempt at stealing Modern Warfare 2's thunder by implementing some missions that you can play co-op with a friend. These drops you into various scenarios from the campaign, with a small tweak, and lets you work together to try to complete the scenario. It is certainly more enjoyable than the singleplayer campaign, but it's still not really anything that is going to set your world on fire (unless you're prone to spontaneous self combustion, in which case you may want to don your asbestos underwear).

Where Battlefield 3 is head and shoulders above the competition, however, is the competitive multiplayer modes. For my money, there is simply no better FPS experience than the one you find in Battlefield 3. The Battlefield series has a proud tradition of making players feel like they're really on a..erm... battlefield.

The sense of destruction and chaos that Battlefield 3 manages to convey in the multiplayer matches is just incredible. You'll be ducking in your chair as you sprint across an open field, running for cover while you hear bullets whizzing by you and explosions from tank shells kick up dirt and smoke uncomfortably close to your feet.

This is made all the better by the patented "Holy crap!" moments that Battlefield multiplayer games are so full of. Like driving towards an enemy objective and suddenly seeing two jets pass by overhead, one of them taking a hit and crashing into the ground 50 meters in front of you in a giant ball of flame and smoke.

Or sniping at a hovering helicopter and getting a lucky headshot on the pilot and seeing the whirlybird crash magnificently into an oncoming enemy jeep.

These are moments that never cease to bring a grin to your face, and in Battlefield 3, you'll probably experience at least one in every match.

There are several different multiplayer modes to test your mettle in. From the capture and hold gameplay of "Conquest", to the objective based "Rush", and the straight up killing frenzy of deathmatches. So no matter what your preferred multiplayer experience is, there should be something in Battlefield 3 to tickle your fancy.

Of course, being a modern multiplayer game, there are plenty of unlocks and leveling to do in Battlefield 3's multiplayer, so if these insane moments of awesome aren't enough to keep you coming back, then maybe the promise of a new unlock will be.

Wrapping up, I have to say that Battlefield 3 is both a tremendous success and a big failure. I feel that EA tried very hard to market Battlefield 3 as both a compelling singleplayer and multiplayer experience, and the game falls flat on its face in that regard.

It appears that Dice are simply not that good at putting together a singleplayer experience, and I almost wish that they had skipped the campaign entirely and focused on multiplayer only.

The campaign is not completely atrocious, but it's bad enough to give people a bad impression of the qualities of Battlefield 3, and I think that is a shame.

The multiplayer is a roaring success, though. This is the next step in modern military multiplayer experience, and I think that the imminent Modern Warfare 3 is going to have a very hard time changing that.

Battlefield 3 is possibly the most fun you can have with your PC and an internet connection. At least the most fun that requires both hands on the controls.

If you have a passionate hate against playing with other people, then there is nothing in Battlefield 3 that you really need to see.

But if you have even a passing interest in multiplayer FPS games, then I implore you to buy Battlefield 3 and join the war. You will not regret it.

'Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation' Review

Gameloft is well-known for basing their games on giants from the console world and Modern Combat is the iOS equivalent of the first-person shooter giant, Call of Duty. In the latest, and greatest installment of the series the United States are under attack from a trio of countries, those being Korea, Pakistan, and Russia. Like any country would do, the United States fight back to get the invaders out.

Gameplay

Lets begin with AI, it doesn't seem to really be AI at all. The enemies seem to be stuck to a certain path, because they always seem to come from the same place and just shoot at you from the same position. The controls are good, the best part about them is that they're customizable, so if you don't like to ones you're playing with you can try out another style.

Graphics

The graphics are up to, and if not, above the expected 3D par in this latest installment, unfortunately knowing the true power of the A5 chip, when compared to games like Infinity Blade, there is a large notable difference. The areas which you're able to roam in are of high quality, the surrounding areas such as the city background are of lesser, but still good quality. The guns look fantastic, as do the menus and icons in-game.

Longevity

Once you've finished playing through the campaign, you're free to jump right back in on a harder difficulty, or to play through your favorite mission again by using the mission select ability. If you're not really into doing so, or you already have done so, then you can jump right into multiplayer. The game offers a few options, which doing so will give you many more hours of enjoyable action.

Cost

For the type of game that Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation is, the asking price is well worth it, for the same price as a small or medium pizza, you're getting a great game of high quality. Unfortunately though not everyone will be able to pay up such a high cost.

Conclusion

Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation is a high quality, well polished first-person shooter without a doubt. The game stacks up hours of gameplay, the campaign may not be the best but the multiplayer really picks up from that. The game looks great, and plays great. First-person shooter fans should seriously check this one out as soon as possible.

'Neon Zone' Review

Neon Zone is a visually interesting game. Full of (obviously) neon colors, it's a game based entirely on mechanics. As much as I'd like to denounce it for having no story, it's a really fun game. It's no A.A.A. title, and it's not even an Angry Birds, but as a time-wasting game, it's fairly solid.

Visually, Neon Zone is simple. Neon colored icons, solid colored levels with black background screens and a white neon interaction square all flow very nicely together. It keeps the focus on the gameplay, while providing visually pleasant visuals when you do stop and look at them.

The mechanics themselves are fairly intricate, but are introduced with a very user-friendly learning curve. Each new mechanic builds on something you've already learned, and early on the levels are never too difficult to complete. Unlike other leveled games (like angry birds or cut the rope), the only thing necessary for progression is completion, not collection of the "stars", which show mastery of a certain mechanic within a level. As the game progresses and the levels get more difficult, players will have their creative and spatial thinking challenged by how best to complete the level.

As for the price, you can't really beat $0.99 with a free version as well. And it's well worth the money. A simple game, smart gameplay, all for just $0.99 or get the free version.

Neon Zone extends its longevity by having "stars", received for completing a level within a certain range of time or mechanic use (jumps, turns). What's interesting is that these are not normally possible within a regular completion of a level, and usually need really creative spatial thinking to complete them. One of the tutorial levels asks you to complete it using 0 turns. Normally the level is completed by turning the device 8 times and jumping 2 times. In order to do it with no turns, careful sliding and jumping is required to complete it. It's concepts like this that make these extra challenges fun to complete, especially when you don't have to worry about satisfying the criteria for the other challenges at the same time.

The audio is really unique. There doesn't seem to be any real music during the levels, however, there is enough of a fade on the sound effects that you essentially create your own music as you play. With sound effects for every single type of interaction with the game, the "music" in each level sounds different every time.

Overall, Neon Zone is a really interesting take on the physics-based puzzle games, and with the unique take on level music and its simple-yet-tough-to-master gameplay, it's definitely worth your time. And money. Unless it's free, in which case, stop reading and go play it.

If you're too slow to solve the puzzle, the meter runs out and you have to start the room over. This can be frustrating for most players, but for those who stick with it, it can be a very rewarding experience.

4. Diamond Penthouse Escape 2 By TeraLumina

While not as long or as unique as the other games in the list, Diamond Penthouse Escape 2 is a solid game with logical puzzles and a humorous ending. It's free and definitely worth your time. Also check out the other games by TeraLumina, such as Haunted House Escape.

5. Escape Game: "The Drifting Locked Chamber" By IDAC CO., LTD.

IDAC is responsible for many room escape games in the app store. They vary in quality, but most are full of challenging puzzles that could stump even the best escapers. I think of the Locked Chamber as one of their better games, as all the puzzles felt logical. Like most IDAC games, it is very linear, but not frustratingly so. RoomBreak: Escape Now!! By Gameday

RoomBreak: Escape Now!! is a hefty room escape game for iPhone/iPod/iPad. It consists of 5 episodes, each with 5 rooms, adding up to a total of 25 challenging rooms to escape. Gameday even promises a sixth episode is soon to come.

RoomBreak is pretty challenging game for the genre. One might even say that it's a hardcore game. What makes it different from others is that there is an exhaust meter for every room. If you're the type of person who likes to relax and take your time exploring a room and solving the puzzles, it may be a very frustrating game for you. You'll likely have to replay most of the rooms at least once before you complete them, since it's so hard to discover everything before the timer runs out. There are also some mini-games involved, which get increasingly harder as you progress. The two games are connected to the knife and the hammer. Using the knife requires you to watch as a sequence of slices flash across the screen. You then have to copy them in the right order in order for the knife to work. The hammer is even more challenging, as it requires you to tap on circles as little yellow rings appear on them. It's a bit like that old-school game called Simon. It gets pretty hard in the 4th episode, and can be incredibly frustrating to complete. However, if you're someone who likes these kinds of challenges, or can forgive them, you're in for quite an experience.

It's easy to tell that a lot of love went into making this game. The 2D graphics are reminiscent of a graphic novel, all drawn superbly well. The music is also done well, with plenty of variety from room to room. The puzzles are challenging and will have you stumped at times. But this means you won't be finishing the game in one day. There are hours worth of gameplay here.

If you have any trouble, here are some tips:

1. For the knife tool, write down the direction of the arrows so you don't forget them. You can try as many tines as you want, because the exhaust meter is not affected while you have a puzzle open.

2. For the hammer, you need to tap each circle as the yellow ring hits it. The game is very unforgiving, so you must be exact. In Episodes 4 and 5, I don't recommend playing while you're half asleep, as the puzzle gets quite elaborate. Again, like the knife, you can keep trying until you get it without having to worry about the exhaust meter.

No matter if your playing the game for a few hours or a few days, there will still be a quest, item and/or character to uncover, that will lead you to totally new territories and leave you with completely different results.

The many different scenic environments in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, consist of rocky mountains, forests, vast fields and decaying tunnels. The attention to detail breaths life into every environment, while breathtaking visuals compliment each scene, leaving you with the feeling of actually being part of that world. Freedom is a big part of the game, weather it involves the enormity of the world or the way that you choose to live in it. The gameplay has several steps to follow, which lets you decide exactly how you want to advance in the game. At the beginning, all you get to choose is a race (your player character.) From there you get to try out different skills before you chose the one you want to specialize in. Leveling happens through skill use, meaning the more skills that you use, the more those skill levels will increase. Once enough of these skill categories are leveled, your overall character level increases. This enables you to make decisions at your own pace and at the right time.

Perk points are something else achieved when leveling, which enables you to spend them to learn new skills or save them until your sure how you want to use them. The more perks that you use, the better your overall combat will be. The spell system has been improved, enabling you to cast a different spell from each hand. Another upgrade that can not be left out are Dragon Shouts. Dragon Shouts gives you the ability to breath fire, slow time, blast force waves, shout ice and call in dragons. By searching environments for word walls, you can learn more shouts adding to your abilities. Before you can activate any shouts, you need to fight a dragon and take its soul. Dragons are all over Skyrim, making it fairly easy to find and fight a dragon.

The game is very tricky and interesting and you have to keep your eyes open and be alert to win the game.

Super Mario Truck

In this game, Mario is a truck driver and he needs to transport a load of goods and deliver them safely to another destination. The problem is that the truck is very bouncy and the road is bumpy which can make the load fall off the truck. You need to ensure that the load is delivered safely without being lost on the way.

Mario Rubber Wheels

In this game, Mario is in the military and he needs to drive a vehicle across enemy lines to another destination. The terrain is rugged and you need to help him cross the region safely and as quickly as possible.

Battlefield 3 Review

To be fair, I had never played a Battlefield game before I purchased my copy of Battlefield 3. I had heard people sing the praises of the previous iterations on the PC so I couldn't let myself miss out on something so hyped. So, in the hopes of finally being able to run people over in a tank, I decided to pick it up, and thus far, my experience has been generally positive.

As everyone reading this review has probably already heard, the Campaign of BF3 is painfully linear, and often frustrating. This is true to some extent. While the backbone of the campaign revolves around an amalgamation of conspiracy theories and cloak-and-dagger, I never found myself leaning forward in my seat wondering, "Oh, man, what's going to happen next?" Everything unfolds in a very anticlimactic fashion, which may leave some players with a bad taste in their mouths. Fortunately, the Campaign is the worst part of a game that exists almost solely for the multiplayer experience.

The main thing that current players have yet to realize is that BF3 is absolutely not Call of Duty. BF3 is an exercise in team play that rewards those that work together, and is incredibly punishing and frustrating to those that don't. This is not to say that one person that's an FPS fanatic won't find ways of contributing lone-wolf style, but the majority of the game modes require communication (in some fashion) and teamwork. Take, for example, my personal favorite mode: Conquest. Littered across the map are checkpoints. By having at least one vehicle (or two footmen) near the checkpoint, your team will begin to capture that part of the map. Once the checkpoint is captured, you can choose to either hang back and defend said checkpoint, or make your way across the map and try to capture another. Regardless of your decision, you're helping the team. The key factor in this mode is that any team that holds at least half of the checkpoints (some maps have four) will cause the other team to "bleed" Tickets, which amounts to the shared amount of times each team can respawn. By holding half or more, you are able to give your team a leg-up on your competition.

What is most compelling, however, is the class system implemented by BF3. There are four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Scout. Each has unique strengths and weaknesses that keeps the game balanced, and each one is crucial to the well-being of the team. Without a Support class, all of the players running-and-gunning as Assaults wouldn't have anyone to replenish their ammo. And vehicles would certainly be overpowered without the Engineer's ability to place anti-vehicular mines. There are plenty of other scenarios that embellish the class system, but you get the general idea.

My only gripe with an otherwise great game is the graphics engine. I'm not exactly sure what compelled DICE to develop a current-gen game at 30 frames per second, but fans of other FPS games will immediately notice the difference. If I may make such a bold prediction, the simple fact that the game has half the frame rate of Modern Warfare 3 may be what keeps hesitant buyers from making a purchase. Additionally, it's a little hard to tell who is on your team and who isn't if you spot someone from across the map. Even when you're right up on someone, the game doesn't immediately place a marker over their head to let you know that the person in your line of fire is on your team, so you may find yourself shooting at a teammate on more than one occasion.

Despite these minor gripes, Battlefield 3 is a unique experience that console players won't be able to find anywhere else. The sense of accomplishment that you feel after winning a tense match by working with your team is hard to find, especially with the plethora of other games out there that only reward those with the highest Kill-to-Death ratio.

'Muffin Knight' Review

Muffin Knight is an arcade, 2.5D shooter/platformer game, where the goal is to get as many muffins as possible, whilst killing and/or dodging the enemies who are falling onto the platforms and slowly walking to their demise. This may sound familiar, as early last year Vlambeer made this exact same game, called Super Crate Box, which is coming to iOS soon.

Gameplay

Muffin Knight is very easy to understand and very easy to play. The controls are fantastic and go along very nicely with the style of game it is. Simply try to collect as many muffins as possible whilst trying to avoid, or kill the enemies who will be walking past you, and you only have one life each time. Each time you collect a muffin, you will switched randomly to one of the characters which you've unlocked. Each character has a different attacking move, which vary from close range attacks to long range bursts of magic as well.

Graphics

One cool, appealing thing about Muffin Knight is the awesome 2.5D graphics. They really suit the style and setting of the game, and they're Retina enhanced (meaning it has Retina Display graphics) for extra ease when jumping and shooting all over the place.

Longevity

Muffin Knight has a grand total of 16 characters at the current time (more may eventually be added in the future), and can be unlocked via collecting the specific amount of muffins. So immediately you'll be dragged in to collect as many muffins as possible, and to improve and level up your characters to make them better, you'll need to level up. This can be done by not only collecting as many muffins as possible but killing the enemies as well. These things alone will on their own have you coming back to collect muffins and kill enemies to unlock more characters.

Cost

Muffin Knight is a lot of fun and for the easy $0.99 asking price, this should be up the alley of anyone who is interested in it especially considering how cheep Muffin Knight is.

Muffin Knight is a great looking, and great fun 2.5D shooter/platformer which offers a lot of fun, and a long time on your home screen without a doubt. Those who may have played Super Crate Box should definitely give this one a shot whilst you wait for the official version of that

Uncharted 3 Review

As the credits began to roll, I sat down my controller. "Wow" was the only word that I could immediately form. Naughty Dog has somehow improved upon the marvelous Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and crafted what is most certainly the finest game on the PlayStation 3 to date.

There is something genuinely special about this series. While it's true that the voice acting, backdrops, and soundtrack are all top-of-the-line, the sense of adventure that Uncharted allows players to experience is the secret ingredient in an already stellar recipe. The third installment in the saga of Nathan Drake is no different, as we find him traipsing around the globe, searching for the secret that Sir Francis Drake kept from Queen Elizabeth centuries ago.

Intricately detailed set pieces allow near-total immersion in the narrative, and the graphical enhancements of even the most minute details - water flow, shadow bend, etc. - breathe life into each and every area.

The story itself is, like the previous games, equal parts historical fiction and fantasy. Nathan Drake and his companions set out to discover the secret that Sir Francis Drake risked his life to hide. Chloe returned from Uncharted 2, and the addition of a few new faces keep the dialogue from getting too stale. What captivated me the most, however, was how emotionally involved the voice actors had to be in this third installment. The quips and one-liners that have become a staple are still intact, but this adventure is very personal to Drake, which voice actor Nolan North seemed to understand completely. Voice acting in a video game has huge potential to come across as forced, cheesy, or a combination of the two. You won't find any of that here. Every line is delivered with an intensity and sincerity that is unmatched by games of recent memory.

After playing through the first few chapters, I began to worry whether the typical "shoot bad guys from cover" maneuvers were going to pop up too regularly to feel exciting. As if they read my mind (after they had completed the game), combat occurs in such a large variety of locales that simply staying in one place and picking people off will get you killed more often than not. The AI has been improved significantly, with enemies flanking you, smoking you out of your hiding place, and generally just being more aggressive than in previous titles. In the time since I've beaten the Campaign, I've read on several message boards that people who completed the previous games on Normal are having fits on the same difficulty in Uncharted 3. Take that as you will.

Multiplayer, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast. Game modes include regulars such as Team Deathmatch, Free-For-All, and Plunder, but also introduce a host of new ideas that players can cycle through if anything starts to get too slow. Several of the new modes revolve around Co-Op, where players team up against the AI. Story-based missions serve as an added bonus for hopping online, although from my experience they don't seem to be cohesively tied together.

It's difficult to write a lengthy review of this phenomenal title without giving away any spoilers, so I hope you loyal readers don't mind if I keep this one on the short side. Uncharted 3 is, without a doubt, one of the best games that I have ever had the pleasure to experience. If you've ever thought to yourself, "I want to be able to play a movie," this is your chance. A full cinematic experience tied together with someone the best story-telling and multidimensional characters, Uncharted 3 is the complete package.

Strategy #1 - Must Select the Right weapon For the map

One thing you must understand - never use only a single weapon no matter what map you're on. Get used to using a gun. The more you use it, the more you'll learn about its use and in turn, you'll be able to use it effectively.

What I would recommend you is to sticking with a few guns - where you need to master - a close-ranged gun such as a sub-machine gun or a shotgun and the other is long-ranged weapon. You can use short-ranged weapons in small maps surrounded with buildings and you can use long-range weapons on bigger maps.

Behold! Better be ready to die if your enemy is using a sub-machine gun and you yourself is using an Assault Rifle while fighting in small rooms!

Strategy #2 - Never Sprint Near Enemies

You must have noticed how baddies are running all over the maps in Modern Warfare 3. In turn, they become an easy target for the non sprinters. Note that there's a small delay before you can use your weapon again after every sprint you make. If you try to aim directly after sprinting, then the enemy can easily take you out as you need one whole second to shoot.

Remember that only sprint when you're avoiding from being seen or watched or you're moving across a dangerous area. Never sprint while being in offensive mode. Be ready to shoot at sight when you happen to see an enemy. Else you'll be dead.

Strategy #3 - Always keep an Eye on Radar

Radar - the most important part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Strategy Guide. Keep your eyes focused on it. All the time. Look for the direction where the dots are moving on the map if you have a UAV. Usually, if you happen to catch up with someone who's walking in the same direction and you're usually behind them, you can get an easy kill. Note that players like to move in groups. Meaning that when you see someone on the radar, there's likely that another player is nearby. So be ready to shoot at sight.

This goes both ways though. I mean, if you just fired a shot, or your enemy has a UAV, then you need to be really careful while pushing out or moving forward. Best tactic is to take up a defensive position because at this time, the enemy will surely come to you.

Then comes the most interesting part - Assassin Perk! If you have that and your enemy has a UAV, then you have the upper hand. Normally your enemies will be running after others who are on their radar. At this point of time, they will not be in a position to attack you cause they're already busy. Most likely they will be sprinting or not ready to aim, remember this. As an Assassin, you should always be in a hidden enemy's territory when they have UAV activated.

Strategy #4 - Base Killstreaks on your Skill Level

This one is kinda simple but many players aren't able to figure this out. It's absolutely pointless to pick the highest killstreak rewards if you're not good at Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer. Rather pick up the lower killstreak rewards which you can get regular access to.

Whenever you get access to such rewards, they add more kills for you and for your group. What happens with this? You tend to level up faster thereby getting access to better guns and perks thus making your game life easy. This way, as you improve and start stacking up bigger killstreaks in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Battles, you can switch to higher killstreak rewards.

Strategy #5 - Match up your Perks to your Gun

There is another problem with a lot of players in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Battles - They aren't able to pick the right perks and attachments for their weapon. Note that some perks are totally meant for specific weapons and don't mix well with others. Yet, there are players who are not able to notice the difference.

Let's take an example of Tier 2 Perks - You're confused on whether you want to go with QuickDraw (faster aiming), or Assassin (Immunity to UAV and other such things). Quickdraw is mainly for long-ranged classes whereas Assassin is clearly for short-ranged classes.

While engaging in face-to-face battles, best thing is to shoot from the hip although you don't have any time to aim. If you love sneaking up on people, then you got to choose close-combat classes. Here, the Assassin trait is very beneficial. Also remember that when your enemies have UAV up, it's very risky to stay close to your enemies.

Let's compare this with Quickdraw. When you're using an Assault Rifle or Sniper Rifle, mostly you won't be close enough to your target to worry about the sensors. However, while using a Sniper Rifle, you need to aim and take down very quickly, specially when someone's sprinting across an open area. Pros can really benefit from this feature of Quickdraw.

Match your Perks and Guns as per your play style. This will make you a really good player in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Strategy scene.

Strategy #6 - Vote for the same Map

I think that this is one of the best things as per strategy in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer. You must vote for the same map all the time. While being in new spaces, it's kind of hard to master different guns, perks and killstreaks. When you finally get familiar with the surroundings, it's far easier to focus on your enemies and stuff.

When you are on a map that you're well aware of, it's far easy to focus on locating and shooting enemies. Once you have mastered a map, just move on to a new one and repeat the process. Do this until you master all the maps. And then.. prepare to DOMINATE.
