Pandanda - A Virtual World for Kids

Pandanda is an online social networking game that was launched in 2008. It is currently a live site that is aimed at children from ages 6 to 14. The site was originally tested in beta mode for free until the program worked out its kinks and programming issues. The site is a cute-looking, innocuous children's website with cuddly non-threatening red panda bears and small forest animals - much like children's stuffed animals or animated animals on a preschooler's television show. Members choose a red panda as an avatar and move through the site chatting with other avatars.

There are several membership levels. Children can test drive the website with a free membership; however, this limits the activity they can have in the virtual world. Paid memberships begin at $5.95 per month with discounts for a 6 and 12 month membership. A paid membership allows players to enjoy the full features of the world. The site also has a currency in place for members to get memberships for free called Panda Gold. Members can earn this currency by filling out surveys, watching videos or completing offers. Panda Gold can also be exchanged for the main currency on the site simply called 'coins'. The website is the base for the game. There is no file downloading to operate the game. The website is only available in English.

Features

New members of Pandanda choose an avatar in the form of a red panda bear to be their online personality. They choose a home for their panda and can alter it to fit their personality. The main focus of the world is for players to earn 'coins' to pay for their panda's life in the virtual world. Players buy their avatars food, clothing, shelter and household items. The coins unlock these features and also unlock opportunities for players to interact with other players. Members can chat about their pandas with other members in a chat room and make friends with other players. The mascot for the website is called Henry. He is the panda bear who acts as the host and the face of Pandanda.

What's Good

Pandanda is a fairly innocent website that will appeal mainly to boys and girls well below age ten who are interested in friendship with other children. The pandas are designed to appeal to small children and appear as non-threatening. The facial expressions are kind and pleasant. The company who produced the website was successful in designing an innocent-looking atmosphere for children. There are no adult themes in the virtual world or on the website. There is no violence, drinking, smoking, drug use, sex or offensive language.

The main focus of Pandanda that will earn the respect of parents is the children's ability to grasp and handle financial concepts. The players must be responsible with their coins in order to care for their panda. Purchasing goods can be construed as a negative in reinforcing overspending and commercialism; however, parents can be proactive and teach their children the value of money and how to spend it wisely. This is a lightweight virtual world - bland and harmless.

What's Bad

The age range that Pandanda is going for seems to be a bit out of touch with the graphics. The design of the characters may be fine for post-kindergarten children, but children over the age of nine will find them juvenile. The website is very static with little movement. It would be a major improvement if the animal's movements could be better choreographed. Users have found issues with the chat pages being mildly offensive. Inappropriate language can be posted unless it is caught and removed by a moderator.

Beyond being responsible with money, there is very little educational value attached to this virtual world. The average design and cookie-cutter approach to the creation of the virtual world may leave parents scratching their heads as to what exactly they are paying for. This company needs to update the website's graphics and not try to overreach their demographic.

Online Safety

The website has done a good job of promoting online safety. No personal information is ever displayed online. There are two chat modes: safe chat (the child clicks on a predetermined chat message) and standard filtered chat (the child types in their own message which is moderated). Parents can easily access the company's safety information. Pandanda encourages parents to monitor their child's online experience have an open discussion with them about online safety.

Moshi Monsters - Kids Virtual Worlds

Moshi Monsters is a social networking online game that was launched in April 2008 by the British media company Mind Candy. The site is aimed at children aged 7 to 12. The foundation of the site is the player's ability to adopt and take care of a virtual pet. Pets appear in the form of cute and cuddly non-threatening monsters - much like cuddly stuffed animals. Although members can adopt pet monsters, the site also offers games to play, a chat room and branded merchandise.

Since going live in 2008, the membership has grown to 50 million users. Most of the revenue generated from the site is gained through the sale of optional memberships of $5.95 per month and through licensed merchandise. Members can choose larger blocks of membership of six months or a year at reduced rates. The website is the base for the game. There is no downloading of a program to operate the game. The website is only available in English.

Features

New members of Moshi Monsters choose a virtual pet monster to adopt. They take care of it by solving puzzles. The puzzles allow players to earn rewards call 'rox'. 'Rox' is currency that players use to purchase things for their monster. In order to properly care for their monster, players buy them food, clothing, shelter and household items. Players can sell items in their possession to other players in exchange for 'rox'. The better care members give their monsters, the greater the ability for their monsters to explore the online world of Monstro City. Members can also chat about their monsters with other members in a social chat room, post messages in a forum and make friends with other owners.

What's Good

Moshi Monsters is a subdued website that will appeal mainly to girls 10 and under who are interested in nurturing and making friends. Most of the monsters are non-threatening. The facial expressions are kind and friendly. There are absolutely no adult themes in the game or on the website. There is no violence, drinking, smoking, drug use, sex or offensive language.

Moshi Monsters offers children the opportunity to care for and nurture a virtual pet. Though the pet is not real, children will learn the basics of what it takes to be responsible. Children learn about monetary responsibility by purchasing goods to take care of their pet. The website is easily accessed, menu options are clearly displayed and buttons are clear and large. The membership fee is relatively small per month and children can play the game for free - though their access to higher levels of the game is limited.

What's Bad

One of the monsters that players can select to adopt looks like a cross between a mummy and a zombie. It stands out as being a bit bizarre amongst the other cutesy-looking monsters. Forums and chat pages where members post messages may mildly offend some younger members, even though such messages are moderated before and after they are posted. If members have any concerns, they can send a message to a moderator. Privacy may be an issue for some parents, as the site collects the birth date, gender and country of origin of the player and the email address of the parent. The site also uses cookies to collect additional information.

Parents may be concerned with the high level of merchandising. The marketing strategy targets members to browse and purchase goods from the online store. Small items like stickers and posters can quickly add up and become expensive for parents. Older members may quickly tire of the cutesy images, so a short-term membership is advised for them. Beyond the nurturing aspect of the website, the educational value is limited. This website is mainly an entertainment portal and marketing tool for the company's related products.

Online Safety

The website has done a good job of promoting online safety. There is a large and prominent button featured on the home page for parents. This shows a certain level of commitment to online safety, as it could have easily been located in the fine print at the bottom of the page. Moshi Monsters offers a comprehensive safety message aimed at parents. It encourages an open discussion with children about their online activity. A child's picture or personal information is never displayed online.

Math Blaster - Cool Math Games

Math Blaster is a massively multi-player online game (MMOG) that was launched in 2011 by Knowledge Adventure. This mathematics-based game is rated for players from age 6 to 12. The company also has another online game called Jump Start that is aimed at pre-school children. Parents who sign their children up for membership at Math Blaster get the Jump Start program for free. As with many other online games, children can play Math Blaster for free; however, universal access to all features requires a monthly $5 subscription. Players download the game's application from the Math Blaster website and then access the game on secure servers. The game is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Although the Math Blaster MMOG was launched in 2011, the game is under a large corporate umbrella known as the Blaster Learning System. The Davidson Company created the Math Blaster educational software in 1989. Knowledge Adventure took over the line of software in 1999 and expanded the Math Blaster brand into a network cartoon series and now as an online game.

Features

In Math Blaster, players initially board a space ship and are given a role as a Blaster Cadet. Players are able to customize their cadet using a Molecular Modulator that allows them to choose the avatar's looks and species. Players advance in the game by tackling math questions - this allows them to earn merits and achievements. These merits allow players to climb the ranks of the Intergalactic Space Patrol. The game uses the foundation of good versus evil as its main theme. The players are the good guys who defend the universe from threats in space. Players make friends with other players and can chat with them using pre-selected and filtered language. Players can also design their home 'pods' and can have pets called 'mutts' who live in 'mutt pods'. Players in Math Blaster are not limited to just one game - there are a multitude of math portals and exercises that players can choose from to advance in the virtual world

What's Good

Math Blaster is a low-key action-oriented game that will appeal mainly to boys from age 7 to 12. The game will also appeal to those who need help with basic and advanced mathematics. The company is to be commended for not just appealing to boys. Many of the avatars that players choose from are female or have feminine characteristics. The graphics and design of the game are above average. There are no adult themes in the game. The appearance of the avatars is kept non-threatening and neutral with funky hair colors and space uniforms. There is no drinking, smoking, drug use, sex or offensive language.

Taking mathematics and integrating it with themes that will attract children is no easy task, but Knowledge Adventure has done a great job in making mathematics fun. This MMOG is one of the few that encourages children to learn practical skills. Math is a difficult subject for many people. By providing a tool to make learning it more enjoyable, Math Blaster is a step ahead of other MMOGs.

What's Bad

Although there is no blood or gore, parents should know that players use laser guns to 'blast' their opposition. However, all of the opponents that players encounter are non-living entities like asteroids, targets, UFOs and pictures of aliens. Younger players at the bottom end of the age range may be a bit disturbed at all of the blasting. The avatars the players have to choose from could be a bit more unique. They look a lot like most other avatars on the internet.

Since the history of Math Blaster lies in educational software, the company markets their previously produced products on the website. Parents may be put under an undue amount of pressure to purchase these items if their children become attached to the brand.

Online Safety

With the high educational component involved with Math Blaster, there will be less of an opportunity for inappropriate language and behavior from players. However, parents should be aware of the different levels of social chatting. In safe chat, players choose only pre-selected phrases, emoticons and pictures. In social chat, players enter filtered language, but some inappropriate words may get through. Math Blaster's online safety message needs to be more prominently displayed. Currently, parents need to click on the Privacy Policy listed in the fine print at the bottom of the web page. No personal information is ever displayed and children do not have to enter their birth date.

In Summary

It is a good educational website for both young and older players who can advance in the game according to their math skills. The content is high and unique in educational components. Most likely, kids will learn something due to the plethora of games available to cater to all kinds of characteristics. At $4.99 per month, it's money well spent.

Don't Wait to Purchase Battlefield 3 for Your Xbox 360

Battlefield 3 was my most anticipated first person shooter (FPS) game of the year. The previews looked stunning, but there was some fear that what was in the previews was the PC version, and would be watered down to play on the consoles. Thankfully console owners will not be disappointed. When you purchase Battlefield 3, you get two discs - one for the multiplayer version, and another for the single player.

XBOX Comparison

The Xbox360 offers a 'lite' install and a full HD install in addition to the discs - it's well recommended that you clear your hard disc for the full install, as the textures come quite close to the PC version. The minimum install has blocky textures that really belong to a past edition of Battlefield. It says something about the graphics in this game that they have had to pile everything onto two DVDs and still require extra downloads. In comparison to the PC, if you run them side to side, you do notice a difference, but you run this in full HD mode, and are sucked into the combat, it is harder to notice. The PlayStation 3 graphics seem to be slightly sharper than the Xbox360. However, the sound is amazing - the radio chatter and explosions, and the aerial combat action all add to the realism.

Single Player Action

The single player game is slightly disappointing. The game is over too quickly, and the story line is not very inspired. You can suffer from some cheap deaths which is frustrating, and you do not get to pilot all the vehicles you see on the trailer. In fact, the only vehicle you get to pilot is the tank for a short while. There is also a co-operative version which builds on the main story, but this is over very quickly too - most gamers report that they can finish in a single afternoon of gameplay.

Multiplayer Option

The multiplayer is what saves the game and makes it worthwhile to purchase Battlefield 3. You can join into games of 24 players (2 teams of 12 players on either side) which is less than in the PC version (in which you can play 64 players at a time), but that is understandable considering the number of PC gamers in the world. The maps themselves are absolutely massive, and you have access to fighter jets, helicopters, assault gun boats, tanks and jeeps. The details are not just a graphic touch, but really add to the depth of the gameplay. You can blow up everything on the map such as walls and barriers, so there is no safe area to camp. The creators at DICE have really made playing in a squad vital to becoming successful in this game, and communication and working together are richly rewarded.

Conclusion

There are some issues on the Battlefield servers with lag and difficulty getting on servers, but it is still in the early days, and it is expected they will be ironed out. If you are thinking about a purchase of Battlefield 3, look no further for the ultimate multiplayer FPS experience.

A Review Of That Classic, Sonic CD!

This article is going to be taking a very in-depth look at that aged classic from SEGA, "Sonic CD". Initially released on the, "Sega CD", which as SEGA's disc add on for their 16 bit Genesis console, this game is a favorite among many gamers all over the globe. Many people that never really favored the company as a developer of software will admit to enjoying a good game of Sonic behind closed doors. While initially only available for SEGA CD, this title has also been released for PC, and even Nintendo's pre-Wii effort, "Game Cube". Even a version of this title has been ported over to android for play on cellphones and tablets! There are a number of reasons why this title has enjoyed so much success on so many formats.

First Glance At Sonic CD!

At first glance, the look of the game is very similar to the look of the original, 16 bit Sonic title. One noticeable difference is the level of extra detail and vivid color that only a game stored on a digital disk could be capable of. The details present in the animation are also more appealing to the eye; again this is due to the additional amount of storage that a CD-ROM disc is capable of. The look isn't beyond 16 bit, it is simply 16 bit with more storage capacity. The look of this title truly is 16 bit taken to its very limit. When initially released on the Genesis's disc drive, the look of this particular title was blowing the minds of many gamers! Newer gamers might consider Sonic CD to be dated, however it is the most state of the art that 16 bit was capable of at the time.

In many ways this game is similar to the original Sonic for Genesis. This title, once again, resembles the first Sonic effort in the way that it plays however there are additional game play moves that the player is capable of. There is, of particular importance to mention, the addition of the "spin dash" and also the "super peal out". These two moves compliment the simplistic formula that was established in Sonic part 1. The notion of rings is still the same in this title. A player has to collect and also keep rings. If a player comes into contact with a baddie then immediately collecting as many spilled rings as possible is within the player's best interest if he or she does not want to lose a life.

As with the original Sonic game, any player that is able to maintain at least 50 of Sonic's rings at the end of any act will have the opportunity to grab a giant ring that will take them to a bonus level. These bonus levels are very similar to the bonus levels of the original Sonic title which were a favorite amongst classic gamers. The bonus rings in this version take place on the familiar three-dimensional plane that players must cleverly navigate through.

Our Take On Sonic CD!

No matter which format a player utilizes, the controls on Sonic CD are very simple. This game, much like Sonic part 1, is a title that is easy to learn yet difficult to master. Players that enjoy two dimensional side-scrollers will like the very fast paced nature of a Sonic game. It is the fast paced nature of the original Sonic that likely sparked the title into a successful franchise. Most players were used to side-scrolling while solving puzzles however many of them had never before tried anything as fast as Sonic. Players that are trying this title for the first time will likely warmly embrace the fast-paced mascot that stood for everything that the power house "Genesis" was to a generation who was going beyond 8 bit graphics for the first time!

The Nintendo Famicom Game Review: Balloon Fight!

Balloon Fight for the Nintendo Famicom was released in 1985. This game is fun to play and has a simple premise: go pop the bad guys' balloons! This simple idea is a great start to the game. The player doesn't have to read a manual, or worry about which buttons to press. This is 8-bit retro gaming at its best.

You can press the A or B buttons to make your character fly up and down. Press left and right on the arrow pad to go, well, left and right. Balloon fight is similar to Joust, but in Joust you are trying to kill your enemies, here you just want to pop your enemies' balloons. Don't be turned off by the simple premise of this game. That's part of the magic! It's easy to understand at first glance, but hard to master.

There are three modes of play: single, 2 player, and Balloon Trip. The main goal for the first two modes is to pop all of the balloons while keeping your own player aloft. In Balloon Trip, you must traverse through an obstacle course and test your flying skills. Be careful of the lightning and other baddies waiting to knock you out of the sky.

The controls in Balloon Fight take a little practice to gain proficiency. If you flap to hard going up, it's difficult to slow your momentum down and you may crash into an enemy and lose a balloon. The same goes for going right and left. If you go to fast in any direction, slowing down becomes a problem and you may find yourself heading into trouble.

The graphics in Balloon Fight are great. Very vibrant and colorful. Even in 8-bit, it looks good, and the sprite animations are well done so Mario's movements are believable and the enemies and balloons are recognizable as such.

If you've just purchased a used Balloon Fight cartridge, make sure to clean the contacts with ammonia using a q-tip. If it hasn't been cleaned, it will certainly need to be. Always make sure your game carts are not dirty before sticking them into your Famicom. Inserting a dirty cart into your working FC is a retro-gaming foul. Don't do it!

All in all, Balloon Fight is one of those games in the vast Family Computer game library that should definitely be in your collection. It's got the retro, 8-bit game mix down just right: a simple premise, which is easily understood at a glance, followed by excellent gameplay.

Baby Monkey (Going Backwards on a Pig) Game Review

If you're looking for an iPhone or iPad game that's both kid-friendly and challenging enough for adults, Baby Money (going backwards on a pig) by Kihon Games is just the game. It's the perfect game for families to share and compete with each other.

Baby Monkey was inspired by the viral YouTube video of a baby monkey going backwards on a pig. The video features a super-catchy song by Parry Gripp, which is also the soundtrack for the game. After only a few seconds of play, you'll be singing the tune. But you won't mind that it's stuck in your head! The song almost never gets old.

The way the game works is you control both the monkey and the pig. The left button makes the monkey jump and the right button makes the pig jump. You can also make them jump higher with some combinations of the two. This is an endless runner, so the goal is to get as far as you can before dying. You also need to collect bananas, jump over obstacles, and make sure the monkey is in the air when the pig crashes into hurdles. You'll encounter all sorts of obstacles, ranging from Nom Nom Hamsters to witches, zombies and even space unicorns!

Besides bananas, there are also coins, or Monkey Bucks, to collect. With these coins, you can purchase costumes (such as the Halloween costume and Super Monkey costume) that offer bonuses, as well as wings that allow you yo continue a game once when you die. If you need more coins, there are also Tapjoy offers, where you can earn Monkey Bucks for watching a short video or signing up for a service. You can also support the developers buy purchasing Monkey Bucks through IAPs.

The 2D graphics are top-notch and visually pleasing. The cuddly critters' facial expressions are adorable enough to keep you coming back for more just when you thought you had enough. The pig is fiercely trying to buck the monkey off his back, and when he succeeds you'll see stars circle the monkey's dazed head.

The developers also add holiday themes to the game, such as Halloween and Christmas. If you buy the costumes with Monkey Bucks, you can see the dynamic duo dressed festively as they run through holiday-inspired background. The Christmas trees and jack-o-lanterns even pop up in the regular theme to add variety.

Baby Monkey has plenty to offer, especially for fans of endless runners. If you're looking for a family-friendly game with adorable critters and a fun theme song, look no further than Baby Monkey (going backwards on a pig). How can anyone pass up on a game with a name like that?

Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror Review and Tips

Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror is a point-and-click adventure game by Revolution Software Limited that has been flawlessly ported to iOS devices.

In this sequel to Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, you start off as George Stobbart, whose girlfriend, Nico, was kidnapped. He himself is now trapped in a burning house, tied to a chair. You need to get him out of the house and begin a lengthy and dangerous journey to rescue Nico.

Once George rescues Nico, you'll get to play as her at several different points throughout the game. The two occasionally split up, sometimes by choice and other times by force, and have to use their own inventory and wits to solve the puzzles ahead of them.

Besides offering plenty of exploration and puzzles for adventure gamers, the Broken Sword series is full of humor and sarcasm that sets it apart from other games in the genre. For instance, you pick up a tequila worm in the first room, and can show it to just about everyone you meet in your travels to see what their reactions are to it. You don't need to talk to every non-playable character or exhaust all your discussion topics, but you'll miss out on some real gems if you don't. Broken Sword 2 is a game you should take your time with and really savor it.

The 2D graphics are charming and look great even on a small iPhone screen. The soundtrack is also perfect for the game, always changing for the location and plot line to immerse you in the game. It's a real work of art.

If you're a point-and-click adventure fan, you won't want to miss out on this game. It's available on PC, iPod, iPhone and iPad, so you have plenty of ways to get ahold of it.

If you need some help, here are a few tips and cheats:

1. For touch screens, swipe your finger around the screen to see which items you can interact with. That way you won't miss anything important.

2. Try mixing items by dragging one to the other if none of your items are doing the job on their own.

3. Some portions of the game require precise timing or you could die! Make sure to save frequently and in different save slots so you won't have to play too much of the game over if you lose.

That should help you get started on your Broken Sword 2 adventure. Enjoy!

If you need more help with the game, see my Broken Sword 2 walkthrough: http://www.appunwrapper.com/2011/12/24/broken-sword-2-the-smoking-mirror-remastered-walkthrough/

Need For Speed: The Run Review!

Brace yourself for the next generation of video games, the next edition of the wildly popular Need For Speed series, entitled The Run. Running is exactly what you'll be doing too, across the country from San Francisco all the way to New York. There's plenty of good reasons why this is one of the most popular video games ever created. This is one of the few venues where you can drive recklessly without killing someone, or yourself. Still, its realistic enough to make you look behind you to check for the police and other guys who want you dead.

Need For Speed: The Run- Gameplay!

EA hasn't held back with intense graphics in Need For Speed: The Run, and like its predecessor Hot Pursuit, there's plenty of gameplay. Maybe because they've made the graphics so intense, you'll also notice occasional flaking out of the game, especially if you go out of boundaries or during cut scenes. Handling your vehicle also can be troublesome, and a sleek vehicle can feel more like a tractor trailer in handling on some of the open road.

Some of the buzz surrounding Need For Speed: The Run is that the game is relatively limited in achievement milestones and can be accomplished in a short period of time by ardent gamers. While this may be the case for some, like other video games, NFS: TR isn't necessarily made for finishing, but instead, for driving. Like the previous versions of Need For Speed, The Run offers you a wide selection of hot cars to choose from. Some of these machines handle true-to-life and others, well, handle more like a grocery store shopping cart.

The course is perhaps the biggest selling point for Need For Speed: The Run and takes you accurately from the West Coast all the way to the Big Apple. The course is divided into ten different sections, each with different events for earning trophies and moving to the next level. Many of the events are simply a race between your car and other drivers, which is really what racing is all about, right? To add some fun at the beginning and the end of this game, EA adds mobsters following you in hot pursuit in cars and helicopters. If this doesn't get your adrenaline running, don't know what will.

Need For Speed: The Run-Our Opinion Of The Game!

Need For Speed: The Run affords you with several opportunities for hitting a "reset" button. This means if you crash, fall off a cliff, or die in any way, you can "reset" yourself to a certain point. Hitting a reset does cause the game to lag for about 15 seconds but it also gives you another chance to score big. If you'd rather trudge on through, you can also choose to restart the entire event and save reset points for experience at the end.

Battlefield 3 Rush Mode Strategy Guide

In this Battlefield 3 Rush Guide, we'll be talking about the best strategy for both defense and offense. After reading this guide, you should be very powerful and win many Rush games as compared to having no strategy at all.

Battlefield 3 Rush Guide - Overview

Rush is a fantastic game mode in Battlefield 3 which utilizes a great deal of strategy as compared to typical game modes. It includes either defending or making against a tactical assault (offensive mode) on several points around the map.

If you're in the attacking mode, you must destroy the M-COMs before you lose your 100 players. In order to win the game, you must do this many times successfully.

However, as a defender, it's kind of the opposite. Your goal is set to killing of 100 enemy players before they take down the M-COMs (called the bases) on the map. If you are able to do it correctly, you win!

If you're attacking, and you manage to take out the 2 bases or the M-COMs, your team will get refreshed to 100 lives (you can see this above the mini-map) followed by an explosion which will show you a new part of the map as well as 2 new M-COMs.

From our learning, there are basically 4 sets of 2 M-COMs that you have to attack successfully. Everytime you destroy a base, you are taken to a new part of the map which has different choke points and different terrain.

Battlefield 3 Rush Strategy Guide - Offensive mode

While playing in the offensive Rush mode, you need to know that there are various roles that you need to fill with namely: Spotter, Front line attacker and the support.

Firstly, all classes can fill in the front line attacker role. A front line attacker is how many players would be playing. A front line attacker or attackers go down the middle or on the side of the map and try to complete their mission. However, you must remember that if everyone in your team is playing this role, you will definitely LOSE.

A spotter usually moves around the outer part of the map and tries to get behind enemy lines. If you are to play a spotter, you should silently mark players who are sniping as you move behind the enemy's base.

You find this kind of strategy in wide open parts of the map like in the first portion of Operation Metro. Two people can fill this role in a 16-16 match. If you can infiltrate successfully, you can sneak up on your enemies and take them out.

Support players are important as well. If you want to be successful, Assault and Support roles with their health and ammo packs can help you dominate quite fairly.

Supporters are just behind the front line attackers and prefer staying in a close location. If you're playing a supporter, you should be able to provide a close spawn point for the squad. A person from each squad of the front line attackers needs to fill this role.

You can use "Suppression Fire" and kill one or two as well when it's all easy but you must make sure that you stay safe if you are in this role. Afterall, Rush mode is all about spawn locations.

You should try getting near a safe spot with a lot of concealment near the objectives. Even if your teammates die, this way they can spawn right on top of you and still be close to the objective.

You don't need to have a good kill:death ratio as a team to win while being in the offensive mode provided you have a bunch of people acting as spawn points near the objectives. You can simply rule over your enemies with spawns.

The competition gets tough when you sneak in and have to plant an explosive on the target.

You can throw a lot of grenades and smoke around the target and then capture him using the smoke as cover. How can the enemy shoot you if he can't see you? Bingo!

Battlefield 3 Rush Guide - Defensive mode

If you want to play in defensive mode, strategies are of course going to be different. Basically, you will learn that it will be easy to play defensively in a pick-up game and very tough to play in an organized game. This is because Pick-up games are disorganized and can be stopped on defense with the right strategy.

Defense mode has its own advantages like having unlimited lives. Even bigger advantage is that the opponents have to come to the "Assault Points" in order to win the match. Therefore, the majority of the team mates can take up defensive positions quite easily.

Although personally I'm not interested in staying at the same spot, but you'd definitely want to have a few players camping out guarding each objective. Because your enemies will have to physically touch the objective in order to win, therefore it's a big advantage for your team.

We believe that Assault and Engineer classes should guard the objective. And then, one sniper should be behind the team protecting them. Do not let your team sneak up and take out offensive players who might be acting as Spotters or trying to sneak up on your guarding classes. If players are really distant, mark them out before you shoot.

As for the rest of your team, you would want to push up as far as you can. For some reason, as in the case of Operation Metro, when the offensive party takes down the first set of your M-COMs, the defensive party falls automatically back to the 2nd set. You would NOT want to do this but instead try pushing up as far as you can. Try getting as many kills as you can before letting the offensive party push into your base.

You would want to move behind enemy lines from time to time and try to sneak up on as much players as possible. It works fantastically when your team is well-organized. Your team can keep spawning behind enemy lines when they die. Kill:Death ratio is not important here because you have unlimited lives on defensive mode. You have to kill as many enemies as you can in order to win this match. You can also die as much as you want but make sure that at least one person stays alive in the area where you have to respawn.

You can also use C4 to destroy trees, plants and walls as many as you want. When you destroy their cover, they can barely hide anywhere, specially across the field. You should plant explosives at popular/common hiding places thereby taking away the cover and aim for the target.

Battlefield 3 Rush Guide Conclusion

Rush Mode is damn fun when players understand it very well and have an organized team. Otherwise it'll be very irritating for them if they are disorganized. In a Pick-up group, you can make the biggest contribution on offensive side by acting as a spawn point for your team near the objective and staying alive as long as you can.

On Defensive mode, you should stay up-front as much as possible and don't let your enemies get closer to your base. It might be hard to defend an objective covered in smoke but it'll kill players running across the field. Make sure to take out as much brush as you can so that your enemies are more visible.

Catherine Review

Catherine shows why a game doesn't have to follow the first person shooter trend and still be a great game. This game is the most unique game released this generation and it does an outstanding job creating an interesting story and tough, but fun, game play.

The story starts out simply enough, you control a guy, Vincent Brooks, who loves hanging out with his friends and spending time with his girl friend Katherine. One night Vincent stays late at his favorite bar and ends up waking up with a temptress the next morning. The girl he wakes up with the following morning is named Catherine. Throughout the rest of the story Vincent is forced to make decisions that will affect which girl he ends up choosing and helps shape his morality. During this whole process Vincent has nightmares in which he is constantly climbing. It's not long before he finds others around him are having the same dream. Without spoiling too much its worth noting that the story takes a turn and becomes an extremely epic story filled with betrayal, death, and plot twists around every corner.

The game play is based around two different worlds, the dream world and the real world. In the real world Vincent will talk to his friends and the locals at a bar. Talking to his friends and the local residents will reveal different parts of the plot and present new elements to the story line, some of which you may miss if you don't have conversations with the other characters throughout the story, some of their lives depend on you talking to them. In the dream world the game play becomes a puzzle game where you move blocks around to climb and reach a goal. Some levels are shorter while other are very long and have multiple check points. The different chapters are made up of several stages, in each chapter a new element is introduced such as ice blocks or bomb blocks. At the end of every chapter there is a boss battle which is a spawn of something he encountered that day in the real world.

Catherine is a fun and interesting game. It's completely different from anything being released at this time and this really boosts the enjoyment. You'll find yourself playing through the different stages and chapters of the dream world in order to see the story play out in the real world, the story is that good. The characters are interesting and as you play through the game its satisfying putting all the pieces together and figuring out what exactly is going on. This game is worth checking out and I give it a big thumbs up.

Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception Review

Oh Naughty Dog. You had all the pieces to make Uncharted the greatest gaming trilogy ever, and just fumbled it ever-so-slightly at the final hurdle. How can a game be so damn good, yet still feel lacking a little something? When it's part of a series as good as Uncharted.

Uncharted 3 is the next adventure of Nathan Drake - part time thief, tomb robber and treasure hunter, as learned and feisty as Indy but as smartass and wisecracking as John McClane. Naughty Dog have brought us another action platformer in the same mould as previous games - one part classic Tomb Raider (sorry, but it is), one part Gears of War and 3 parts massive Hollywood blockbuster. Which is to say, it's really bloody good.

Gamers can expect more of the same here, but with new settings - as with every new Bond film, each Uncharted upstages the last with locations and scope, and for the most part, Drakes Deception does a fantastic job. Ranging from a backstreet London pub, a Syrian fortress and the deserts of Yemen, to set pieces in a ship graveyard and on a plane in flight, Naughty Dog have really gone for it with the scenery, and it pays off as Uncharted 3 feels the biggest game yet.
Visually, the stunning graphics of Uncharted 3 have been surpassed again, with locales having a depth of detail and lack of repetition that breathe life into the cities and character into every face. It's all so believable, and Drakes interaction with anything he goes near is incredible - fights will adapt to whats at hand, and Drake himself bounces off of walls and doorways in an incredibly believable fashion. Just try one of the several chase sequences to see what I mean - the corralling on a set path is nearly imperceptible, because you are too busy watching Drake slam doors into peoples heads as he runs past, or ducking the random gunfire spraying in his direction. It rocks.

Then we move onto the sound, which simply maintains the high standards set before - every character interacts and responds in a way that puts many summer blockbusters to shame. There's real warmth and affection between Sully and Drake, there's thinly veiled remorse between Drake and Elena, and there's even genuine contempt and hate between the games antagonists and our heroes. It's just brilliant, and as the story progresses, you fully feel the effects of what's happening to the characters - there's even reference to the set pieces of previous games. The bad guys are a bit flat and lacking clear motives (I still don't really know why they are after the final McGuffin), but hey, it's still dressing on which to hang some truly great storytelling.

So, on to gameplay, and here, although the wheels most certainly don't come off, there's a touch of wobble in the axles which could have been averted. For all it's shininess, Drakes Deception is still as unerringly linear as previous titles, with only one way to go to progress. Comparisons with Tomb Raider are actually off here, as the depth of puzzles and progress is more shallow than the adventures of Ms Croft, with the game only just stopping short of marking where to go with a big neon sign. Combat is the same as ever too - cover based shooting is the order of the day, and whilst it's good, it's not going to set the world alight. It's further compounded by the lack of enemy variance, and the foolish decision to ramp up difficulty as the game progresses by merely sending more waves of enemies at you as you go, instead of perhaps creating a bit more variety in the types of enemy you face.

The shame is, there's every chance that a bit of planning could have really elevated Drakes Deception to Game of the Year - certain sections (such as the ship graveyard) get the balance so right it's blinding, and as you scale the rotting hulks of iron while fighting off dirty pirates the feeling of epic achievement hits peaks most games only dream of. The problem is for every high there's two "not-so-highs" to match it - later levels dump waves of gunners at you across tight courtyards, and it only just stays the right side of frustrating.
One final gripe - the last third of the game is 100% carbon copied from the previous game - I'll avoid the spoilers, but if you've played Uncharted 2, you'll know what I mean when you see it. I even managed to predict what would happen and when, and the wrapping up of the story is a bit lacklustre. I could well believe the ending was rushed to hit a deadline, which is an immense shame.

Uncharted 3 also ships with a co-op mode and multiplayer, both of which have offline and online modes. Co-op takes five levels from Uncharted 2 and 3, and lets up to three players work together to reach the end boss - it's fun, if a bit quick to die of repetition. Multiplayer instead allows for team based action, and is far better - most game types offer 5 vs 5 combat with objectives ranging from the simple (first to reach a set number of kills) to the more complex (capture the flag, hold the territory, keep hold of the treasure, etc.). It's a lot of fun, and with the now-obligatory ranking and unlocks, has some legs to it. It isn't going to tear most players away from the looming MW3, but is a fun diversion once you've beaten the main campaign.

But, for all my moans, Uncharted 3 is still an excellent, well rounded adventure story with some truly mind-blowing moments. It surpasses many other action adventure titles out there, and only just falls short of being something truly incredible. If you have a Playstation 3, you need this game - newcomers would perhaps miss the little nuances of the character interaction, but would still enjoy the rollercoaster ride that only Naughty Dog seem capable of in the current market. It is, after all, still a brilliant episode in a fantastic series.
9 / 10

To Win in Mine Sweeper You Need to Be the Best - Here Is How

When a person first opens Mine Sweeper, the very first thing that you will see is the grid of grey blank squares. The three grids that are at the top left corner of the window of the game are the number of mines which you have to uncover without exploding them. At the right top corner of the game's window you will see a slot that shows the number of seconds it is taking for you to complete the game. Your limit to complete the game is 999 as only then you will be able to win the game. But if it doesn't then it's alright because you will not lose unless you click on a mine.

In the game there are three difficulties. The first is the beginner, intermediate and the last one being the expert level. The beginner level only has ten mines while the intermediate level has forty and the expert one has ninety.

To start the game you would have to click anywhere on the blank grey squares, keeping in mind that the one you click does not turns out to be a mine. It also sometimes takes a few tries to get to the start. When you will feel the need of starting the game all over again then you can click on the smiley that is at the center of the game window.

After clicking on the smiley you can again begin the game. It would be wise if you do not rush will the time and just play the game until you get the hang of it. Every number communicates to the number of mines that are touching the square like if you see a number two then that means two mines are linking with the square even if it's any of the square at the corner. Keep in mind to think about your moves so that you won't lose the game. When you will get use to the game about how it is played then you can start working by finishing the game by the time required that is 999 seconds.

When you will for sure know that some square is a mine then what to do is to right-click on the mine with your computer mouse. By doing this you will put a flag on it so that you don't accidentally click on it and like that right click on all the mines in order to get to some pint in the game. For this you must know exactly about the gaming techniques. If you will click again on the flag mine then it will turn into a question mark and that will help you in marking the ones that you think may be a mine and that will help you in getting to some pint of the game. You can play this game the Mine Sweeper in your own iPhone with all the other apps.

Strange House Game Review and Tips

IDAC CO., LTD. offers many room escape games in the Apple app store. Lucky for us, some of them are free.

While they usually consist of simple 2D drawings, one of their newest games, Strange House, is in gorgeous 3D. It makes a huge difference, and the game feels a lot more realistic than others.

However, the game suffers from some of IDAC's usual flaws, and in some ways even more so than their other games. Their games are usually very linear, in that you need to see every clue for a puzzle before it will allow you to solve the puzzle. In Strange House, this is taken to the extreme, with certain puzzles requiring the player to zoom in on every piece several times in order to be able to move the pieces around. Another flaw is that some items are found early on, and despite knowing what you need to do with them, the game simply won't allow it. This can all lead to much frustration. However, it is an enjoyable game if you go in with an understanding of their games. The more IDAC games you play, you learn to examine every item very closely.

So don't let the linear gameplay turn you off from Strange House. As a free game, you can't go wrong. And if you get stuck, you can always refer to my walkthrough.

Here are some tips to help you out in case you get stuck:

1. To move the animal sculptures, make sure you zoom in on each animal as much as possible. Also examine the engraving on the table very closely. Once you do all this, the game should be satisfied that you saw all the clues and you will be able to rearrange the animals.

2. For the water puzzle in the bathroom sink, you need to get 4 dl of water into one beaker before you can pour it on the scale. To do this, first fill up the 5 dl beaker with water. Then pour that water into the 3 dl beaker. Dump the water from the 3 dl beaker. Pour the rest of the water from the 5 dl beaker into the 3 dl beaker. Now there are 2 dl of water in the 3 dl beaker. Fill the 5 dl beaker again and pour off 1 dl into the remaining space in the 3 dl beaker. You now have 4 dl in the 5 dl beaker. Pour it onto the scale and the drawer will unlock!

3. When you have all three monkeys ready to be placed in the appropriate places, don't do so in the order written above the opening. Try swapping the second and third monkeys to get it to work properly.

Those are the most problematic parts of the game. Hopefully you can escape on your own now!

Battlefield 3 Primary Weapon Attachments List

In this Battlefield 3 primary weapon attachments list, we'll be discussing about the various types of weapon accessories you can get for your guns in BF3. Please note that while almost all guns have access to the majority of the weapons in secondary attachments list, the main or the primary weapon attachments are mostly specific to guns.

So what's the difference between both the attachments? Primary attachments greatly enhance your weapon without any limitations. Secondary attachments make you strong in one area and take away the power from the other.

Confused? Let's take an example. Bipod and Foregrip are two primary weapons which reduce recoil. There is no limitation of attaching these weapons. But if you compare these with the secondary attachment such as Flash Supressor which decreases the flash your gun makes (which is good) it also decreases your weapon's accuracy!

Battlefield 3 Primary Weapon Accessories List

Let's go on with the list of the weapons which are as follows:

Bipod - Bipod in Battlefield 3 is an attachment of Sniper Rifle. It decreases the kickback effect with a great amount. Also, another thing which is good about it is that it gets rid of drifting of the scope while being zoomed in. It means that normally when you aim with this rifle, the scope does move by a small amount continuously. But, this weapon - Bipod - stops this.

The only disadvantage with this weapon is that you can barely move while aiming for a shot. You have to lay down prone in front of a flat surface for the weapon to take effect. Of course you can get up and move on after you have made a long shot along with this weapon.

Extended Mag - This is a weapon clip which extends your magazine by half. Therefore, if you're equipped with AK-74M, instead of having 31 bullets, you will now have 46 bullets in total ( 45 in the clip and 1 in the chamber).

Using Extended Mag is very good in short-ranged battles when you are doing a lot of shooting from the hip against multiple targets. Just to remind you, utilization of bullets is more in short-ranged battles than in mid to long ranged battles.

Foregrip - This can minimize the horizontal tilt caused when you fire with your weapon. As you know that automatic weapons have the most horizontal tilt, thus making use of a Foregrip is very good. There is no limitations to this attachment though. If you're doing a lot of mid-ranged battle with Light Machine Gun or an Assault Rifle, you would choose Foregrip over the Extended Mag.

Straight Pull Bolt - As you know that usually you have to stop aiming in order to reload the Rifle with the bullet. But with the Straight Pull Bolt, you can simply reload your rifle while totally zoomed in on bolt-action. But then, many players prefer the Bipod over this because you only need one shot to take down your enemy. Also, you tend to pull the trigger much faster when not zoomed in for the next enemy while loading the next bullet.

Underslung Rail - With this, you can easily attach things such as the M320 at the bottom of your gun. This is more of a general or a basic attachment for Engineer Class which allows you to use the grenade Launcher while your gun is out (as compared to switching weapons which take a lot of time).

Battlefield 3 Primary Weapon Attachments Conclusion - For many players, its kinda simple to get the attachment that you want. Most of the classes who use Sniper Rifles will use the Bipod attachment. Extended mag will be used for classes engaged in short-ranged combat. Foregrip for mid-ranged battles. Underslung Rail maybe used by Engineer Class, however, we feel that the pros will not like to put much emphasis on Straight Pull Bolt - unless you're playing in defensive mode in Rush while taking care of the objective.

Battlefield 3 AK-74M Guide

In this Battlefield 3 AK-74M guide, not only will you discover its strengths and weaknesses but also the attachment combinations you can get with this gun to maximize your kills.

Battlefield 3 AK-74M Overview

Magazine: 30 rounds

Rate of Fire: 650 RPM

Faction: Spetsnaz

Fire Modes: Automatic (default) and Semi-Automatic.

In the beta test, it was noted that the tooltip was able to set in the burst mode, however, players were only able to flip between automatic and semi-automatic. It could be an error where either the burst mode itself is not available or the tooltip is incorrectly showing burst mode as an option.

This gun is one of the default weapons available only to the Assault Kit and to the Spetsnaz players. It's kinda pretty general weapon having some strengths and weaknesses. While facing in a long-distance battle, a Sniper Rifle would be the best but if while facing a battle in a close-range format, a submachine or a shotgun would be more good.

Of course it all depends if you're a really good player where you can surprise your enemy and change the sides of the battle. Same way you can equip a specific weapon as per a situation and pwn him.

Battlefield 3 AK-74M vs M16A3

If you compare AK-74M with M16A3, it has comparatively slower fire rate and slightly higher bullet damage. Meaning that you can use it in mid-distance battles. And you can use M16A3 in close-distance battles.

BF3 AK-74M Strategy & Attachments Guide

As you are more likely to be up against M16A3s, the Engineer's submachine guns would be damn good in short-distance battles and the Support's light machine guns aren't that great in mid-distance battles and you are bound to be in a situation where AK-74M is really great in mid-distance battle on the map.

What does this mean? You can make better use of this gun by adding on appropriate attachments which will add-on to your mid-ranged strengths.

Now you might want to improve your mid-range attacks by getting a better sight. The early PSO-1 (4 times magnified) scope works very well for this. You can always change to a different scope as you get to a higher level.

Next thing you want to do is improve your long-distance accuracy as this gun is kind of inaccurate in such a situation. Here you can equip the Heavy Barrel. But then, a heavy barrel will increase the vertical climb and you need to reduce your horizontal climb so that you can worry less about readjusting your gun. Here, a Foregrip would be perfect to balance this.

The last step left is to turn your gun into a single-shot mode. You can do this by pushing down the button on the directional pad on your controller. When you fire at your enemies, you can fire at the rate of 4 bullets per second.

Under this situation, you get the gun back in the place from where you shot it. In simple words, when you shoot, there is a vertical climb due to the Heavy Barrel, but if you wait for a second, it'll go right back into the original position. If you don't use the automatic mode to pull the trigger, it becomes really accurate, from long distances as well.

You will soon learn that 1-3 shots are enough to hunt down your enemy depending on how close your are and you can blast off 3 shots in a second thus making it accurate enough. Although, just make sure that you are able to mark your enemy. Because if they are able to escape, at least your friends nearby the enemy can kill them.

You will be basically damn strong at mid-ranged battles than any other classes in Battlefield 3. You will be definitely weak against Snipers so stay away from shooting in long-distance format. If you can sneak up on the enemy and get the jump, short-distance is perfect. Don't get too excited and end up going head-to-head with this gun as you're really weak against a lot of classes with respect to this.

Battlefield 3 AK-74M Guide Conclusion

Overall you have learned that AK-74M is really good in mid to long-ranged battles. You can get the maximum benefit by reducing its kickback effect. You can also overcome the weaknesses of this weapon as strengths rule over them. (head-on close-distance battles and very long-distance sniping).

Gears Of War 3 Review - A Fitting End For The Series?

The "Gears of War" series is one of the console defining games of the Xbox 360. Combining great visuals with satisfying cover based 3rd person shooting, it provides a thrilling action packed experience, whether you play alone or with friends.

The third game in the series promises to provide us with a satisfying conclusion to the games story line, as well as giving the multiplayer modes a new coat of paint and ensure that you'll have fun killing Lambet and Locust for months to come.

I have personally never really been all that into Gears of War. I played through the first game and found it to be enjoyable enough, but it did not set my world on fire and make me yearn for the sequel. So when Gears of War 2 came around I actually ended up giving it a pass. It was therefore with some shoulder shrugging that I greeted the announcement of Gears of War 3. I had no doubt that it was going to be a competent shooter, but I did not think it would really be for me.

But as more footage of the game was shown, I was really blown away by how gorgeous the game looked, and how fun the gameplay appeared to be. I realized that in the years since the first Gears of War, I had not really played any 3rd person shooter that presented such a smooth and polished experience as the original Gears did.

This lead me to ultimately decide to pick up Gears of War 3 and give it an honest try. And I'm glad I did.

First off, you should know that this is a really really good looking game. It's not Battlefield 3, but it's one of the best looking games I've seen on the Xbox for sure. And it's not just in terms of the quality of the graphics that Gears 3 impresses. Throughout the campaign you will be travelling through many different landscapes, from destroyed cities to green forests, and the change of scenario does a great job of showing off the bells and whistles of the graphics engine.

And it is a great campaign. Aside from looking great and taking you to lots of different places around the war ravaged world of Sera, the game delivers a well crafted story that adds a lot of depth to the caricature-like COG protagonists. You'll see a whole new side of the former "Thrashball" player Cole, as he visits the decrepit ruins of his home town.

It's really nice to see Epic actually put in an effort to give depth and personality to the characters, in what could have otherwise been just a straight up action shooter with stereotypical characters. Especially when it works out so well as it does in Gears of War 3.

The story takes place 18 months after the end of Gears of War 2. The humans of the planet Sera are in a bad spot, having given up their last big city in an attempt to defeat the Locust once and for all. The surviving humans moved to the island of Vectes to rebuild, but soon the Lambent, big yellow glowing versions of Locusts, started becoming an increasing threat, causing the survivors to scatter across Sera.

As the game begins, Marcus Fenix and several of his COG buddies, including his brother Dom, are on board an old carrier ship, which acts as a floating haven for a group of survivors.
Naturally, things quickly go pear shaped as the ship comes under attack and Marcus and his crew finds themselves up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

Without spoiling any of the story, I can say that it quickly becomes a story that is both very personal, but also has the required "gotta save the world" importance to it that is the par for the course of Gears games. The campaign does a good job of actually providing a good ending, which also feels like a natural end point for the trilogy.

I'm extremely happy that Epic did not give in to the temptation of making a really open and unsatisfying ending to pave the way in case they wanted to make another Gears game. As it stands, I could see more Gears of War games being made, but they could also just let the series lie here and it would feel perfectly fine.

I was able to complete the campaign in around 7-8 hours, and I think the difficulty on Normal was pretty much spot on for me, as someone who plays 3rd person shooters infrequently and have not played Gears of War 2. I felt that I was in control of the situation most of the time, but with enough moments of "oh crap" and ensuing deaths that the game kept feeling intense and exciting to play. If you're a hardcore Gears player, then there are harder difficulties to choose from, making the enemies capable of brutally murdering you quicker than you can say "Normal mode is for wussies".

Of course the real meat of Gears games is the cover and gunplay mechanics. And they are as great as ever in Gears of War 3. Running up to cover and ducking behind it feels fast and smooth, and popping out from behind a concrete barrier to headshot an approaching enemy Locust makes you feel like a boss.

The guns have a good chunky feel to them, and you get a sense of real destructive power, whenever you unleash a clip into the chest of an unfortunate victim. And of course the chainsaw bayonet attachment on the Lancer assault rifle makes for much blood fountain related carving entertainment. Sure, it's not as great as a chainsword from Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, but carving Locusts is *almost* as much fun as carving Orks (and they both taste like chicken).

I have only spent very little time on the multiplayer. Gears is mostly a singleplayer game for me, as I have long given up on trying to perform to any decent level in competitive Gears multiplayer. But if you're a Gears deathmatch junkie, then there is plenty for you in Gears of War 3, and the gameplay is as visceral and intense as ever.

I prefer the games Horde mode then, which pits you against waves of Locust and Lambent. Fighting wave after wave of enemies, you earn money for every defeated baddie, which is used for buying everything from guns and ammo, to small mechs and resurrecting other players. It's a frantic experience and if you want to complete all levels then you're in for quite the challenge.

Oh, and lets not forget that you can play the whole campaign with up to 3 other friends as well. So if you're into multiplayer, then you should be able to find a mode that you enjoy in Gears of War 3.

Overall I'm really positively surprised by Gears of War 3. I came into the game expecting a competent shooter with a throwaway story and two-dimensional characters, wrapped in some agreeable eye candy. But what I got was a interesting story, filled with characters that were not just tough wise cracking soldiers, wrapped in extremely delicious eye candy and perfectly seasoned with shooting that feels just right.

If you are looking at Gears of War 3 and wondering if you are really in the mood for another 3rd person shooter, then please take my advice and give it a try. The world of Sera needs you.

Grand Prix Story Review - Some Hefty Potholes On The Track

After my extremely positive experience with Game Dev Story, that I reviewed a little while back, I decided to revisit the world of phone gaming by picking up another of Kairosoft's "Story" games.

This time I bought "Grand Prix Story", which should be right up my alley, as I am both a fan of racing games and also enjoy watching races on TV.

Grand Prix Story puts you into the shoes of a racing team owner, letting you build cars, hire mechanics and racers, and generally lets you go about living out your Frank Williams fantasies (sans the tragic spine injuries).

Initially your choices will be limited. You'll only be able to build one type of car, a roadster, and select between two different drive train configurations, front wheel drive or rear wheel drive.

But in good "Story" game fashion, you will soon be presented with more options, getting to research new parts or vehicle types, or upgrading your existing vehicles or parts.

This means that you will soon be tweaking and tuning your cars so they perform optimally for the various races that you participate in.

And the races are of course what the game is all about. Sadly, they're a bit of an uninteresting affair. The presentation of the races is fine enough, with the traditional art style of Kairosoft being used to good effect.

But you have absolutely no option of actually influencing the races, and spending a minute or two just watching cars plod around the track does become old hat fairly quickly.

I understand that there is a "fast" option for the races, which unlocks after you've played through it once, but frankly you're going to be extremely frustrated way before you get that far.

And I have more complaints about Grand Prix Story.

There is something seriously off kilter about the economy of the game. I really enjoyed in Game Dev Story that it took a really long time before you had to stop worrying about money.

You were usually just scraping by, even if you had made several big hit games, because the development cost of new games and buying into new consoles was so expensive.

This kept a sense of tension in the game, and made you really worry about how your new "Pirate Racing 3" would do in the market (they loved it, by the way).

But in Grand Prix Story I was quickly amassing huge piles of money, to the point that after a few hours of gameplay I had several millions in the bank and raking in money far far faster than I could spend it.

Part of the problem is the way that the economy of Grand Prix Story focuses so heavily on research points rather than cash.

You're going to need research points to do everything from researching new tech, to upgrading parts and vehicles. And those are the most essential ways that you are going to increase your chances of winning races.

So while you're going to need some cash to pay your staff and build new cars, you're actually going to be far more interested in getting research points rather than money.

This leads to you participating in a lot of races simply for the purpose of getting research points, as the main avenue of research point accumulation is through races (why can't I buy a frigging lab or something?).

This makes the lack of a way to skip watching the races even more aggravating, as you're now forced to watch a race where you don't even care about your placement.

When you finally get your research points and upgrade your car, the next issue is that there seems to be a very large gap in the quality of the competition from one race to the next.

This means that your prize car that you have won the last five races with, with a comfortable multiple seconds margin, is suddenly only good enough to land you a 3rd or 4th place.

Which means going back to "grinding" the easier races for more research points, so you can get the upgrades you need to make a competitive racer.

If you're still unclear about my feeling for Grand Prix Story (maybe you fell asleep after the first few lines of the review, or you were thinking about playing Battlefield 3), then let me give it to you short and sweet (that's what she said).

I am rather disappointed in Grand Prix Story. I went into the game hoping to find another addictive phone game experience like Game Dev Story.

And while the game initially struck all the right chords, it's clear that there are some fundamental design issues with Grand Prix Story that makes this a much less compelling and enjoyable experience than it's game-design-em-up sibling.

If you've already played Game Dev Story and think that a shot of Grand Prix Story is just the sort of follow up joyride that you need, then I would recommend that you brake and swerve around it.

If you're new to Kairosoft games and are trying to decide between this and Game Dev Story, then I strongly urge you to go with Game Dev Story.

Arc The Lad 3 Review - Is Arc The Lad 3 Better Than Arc The Lad 2?

Arc the Lad 2 may have overshadow Arc the Lad 3 being so great and all but that doesn't necessarily mean Arc The Lad 3 is a bad game. Being the last of the original Arc The Lad series, the improvement that has been made for the game is at its peak including improvement in the visual department. But the real question is; is Arc The Lad 3 better than Arc the Lad 2?

The game set after the "Great Disaster" that happened in Arc the Lad 2 with the world looking less chaotic state than before. With that being said, the game does not have the element of fighting for a great cause anymore. While Arc and Elc was on a journey to destroy a powerful monster that threatens the destruction of the world, Arc The Lad 3 sets in a peaceful state of the world with not much of a great cause in the hero's journey except traversing all over the world and finding troubles. You will play a character called Alec who dreams of becoming a Hunter, a profession title for bounty hunters, after being saved from the Great Disaster by a Hunter who has aspired him. His friend, Lutz, who serve as the comic relief of the game follows him on his journey to become a great Hunter.

Fans will be pleased to know that the monster catching feature from Arc The Lad 2 is back in the game with a much better change. The character Teo has the ability to turn monsters into cards and summons them at will during battle without taking the spaces of the party unlike Arc The Lad 2 which is much preferred since the monsters are not strong enough to replace the human characters. Gameplay looks like an improved version of the Arc The Lad 2, in some ways, fixing some of the issues but yet no any significant changes. In fact there's actually some defects in the gameplay when compared to Arc The Lad 2. For instances, limitation of numbers of characters you can put in battle has been drastically decreased to only 4 characters and enemies that you will encounter will mostly come in small numbers who are relatively easy to beat. Arc The Lad gameplay has survive the gaming industry and appeal to many gamers because of the many interesting characters in battle and large number of enemies who are challenging, both which are present in the second series, but are absent in the third.

However, being last of the series there are improvements in the gameplay. Character animation when casting skills and spells looks more slicker and smoother than before. Moving through each other characters is also possible now allowing players more freedom in developing a strategy. But the game's major disappointment is the enemy being able to move through your characters which is a stupid move on the developer's part. This alone has abolish much of the fun in the game unable to perform classic tactical strategy such as protecting weak characters and surrounding an enemy.

The journey of the game is very long giving you the adventure of a life time. However, because of the absent of any great cause in the story and a gameplay that can't entertain you in the long run, some of you might not go all the way to the end with this game. Story is actually good, with the characters thrown in varied situations, but it is clear that this game is for people who enjoy games that are just about going adventure without any great cause, meeting all of the recurring characters of the previous Arc The Lad series along the way. You could say Arc The Lad 3 is like an anniversary edition. One that fans would enjoy rather than casual gamers.

Overall, of course Arc The Lad 2 is the best of the series. However, in some ways Arc The Lad 3 is better. A long journey that is not about saving the world or any noble deed could be what the fans looking for after playing though the chaotic state of the world of Arc The Lad 1 and 2. Recurring characters from the previous series is also what makes this game worthwhile.

Wouldn't it be cool to play this game with a walkthrough guide by your side revealing all of the game's secrets? Click here to get the Arc The Lad collection with a Strategy Book that cannot be gotten anywhere but here.

Review of Flash Game: Pixle Physics

Physics based puzzles games have always been popular with gamers of all demographics. There's something about items in games behaving exactly like they would in real life that gives the game that little edge over everything else. It must be the added realism that allows the user to get more immersed in what is going on and not want to leave the game for a little bit longer.

Pixle Physics is no exception. Each level contains blocks of different sizes stacked on platforms. Your task is to fire projectiles at the blocks and knock them off the platform. Points are awarded for all blocks knocked down and taken away for knocking down "bad" red blocks. The puzzle element comes in the form of having to figure out the right power and trajectory of your shot. There is also a choice of different sized projectiles. The advantage of a bigger ball is more momentum which increases the chance of sending those blocks flying off the screen. However this extra power comes at the cost of points once the score is counted.

Judging by how even the simplest of physics games (such as this one) are popular its a surprise that there aren't more of them. There are only a handful released each month and few of them do anything ground breaking. One reason this may be is that the mathematics required to code the game is a barrier to entry that casual developers cant overcome. There are hundreds if not thousands of tutorials about making games online that any good student can follow and use to create half decent games. However the maths required to figure out trajectories, gravity, momentum, friction and make sure everything is obeying Newtons laws of physics is a lot harder than simple algebra. The coding has to be pretty accurate as anything that doesn't behave like the user expects will ruin the illusion and bring the player out of their immersion bubble.

It's a shame that Pixle physics doesn't expand on any game play elements that have been done before. There are potentially many things that can be thrown into the game such as a wider variety of blocks, perhaps some rope physics or walls that cause blocks to bounce or even gels that cause other blocks to stick. These extra feature however would all require more maths coding which might take the production time of these simple flash games up by weeks if not months. If all you want is a simple puzzle game then this wont leave you disappointed.

Hints and Tips:

As a general rule if you knock the bottom blocks out of a structure the others should fall down

The platforms are slippy, you don't need as much force as you initially think to make blocks side off

If you get stuck on a level try firing your ball in random directions to see if anything happens that inspires you.

3 Fiery Hot Car Racing Games

Online arcade car games are sizzling hot! Think about it. They're just simple to create, flash based games with crappy graphics. Yeah that's right, they're downright ugly games. But, take a look at any flash website. Every last one of them will have 3 or 4 different racing games. And a huge number of them get a few thousand, if not over 10, 000, plays a day. You'd have thought only sleazy websites get such spicy ratings.

Today I'll show you some of these shockingly ugly, yet insanely popular games. Bloody ironic, isn't it?

Mad Monday? More like insane.

First up is Mad Monday. First time I came across it, I ended up chuckling non-stop. Mad Monday? Not the best name in the world eh? Well tell that to the 96,000 who've played this car racing game. Yeah that's right. 96 Grand! The concept's pretty simple. Drive to win. And while you're at it, knock every other driver off the road. Mercilessly. I sense a tinge of GTA influence. But then again, which racing game isn't?

You've got 3 different weapons to choose from. You can leap over bridges, crash into anything and everything and spill some blood as well. Oh, and when you do die, you can just click continue. Excellent way to kill time on mournfully boring day.

Crackin' Ball Z

Who'd have thought someone would make a racing game, (a really, really stupid looking one) out of DragonBall Z? And what's the name of this stupendous creation? DragonBall Kart. First impression? Worst car racing game ever. Well that was before I started playing it anyway. Yes, the graphics suck. Yes, game play is slow. Yes, everything looks completely spastic.

But I was laughing my ass off all the way to the finish line. As far as I can tell, there are about 6 races for you to compete in (not confirmed though). You can choose from 4 characters.

Get this. You can actually jump up and friggin' down! And shoot some sort of weird, freezing laser beam out of your mouth once the meter's full. Actually winning the race is quite tough though. Or maybe I just suck.

Mario?

Yeah, Mario! Who didn't grow up with him? There's a kind soul out there who almost loves Mario as much as me. And he had the heart to create the Mario Racing Tournament car game. It's actually very similar to Crackin' Ball Z. 4 characters, 6 maps or so. Very similar game play as well.

But, the difference is this. Mario kicks ass! The game actually incorporates all its classic elements that made it famous in the first place. The mushrooms, the random pipes, the stars. You name it, they've got it. Rating? 4/5. The graphics do suck after all.

On the whole? I'd definitely choose Mad Monday as "Le Numero Uno" in the car racing games department. You'd have to see it yourself to believe it.

The author, highly recommend to play and enjoy this type of car games and motorbike games online, for all the kids which want to relax after a boring day at school.

Closed Room Game Review and Tips

Closed Room is a room escape game, consisting of the usual controls. You tap on items around you, pick up some of them an interact with others. The goal in this game is to use your surroundings and your wits to solve numerous challenging puzzles and finally escape the room.

If you've played "Ellie," you might be expecting some near-impossible puzzles in this game. While there are some difficult challenges here, don't worry. Closed Room is more straightforward, and the objects you find offer helpful tips as to their uses. There are many clues to find here, and this game will last you considerably longer than you would imagine for such a minimalistic room. The controls are also very intuitive and responsive, which is not always the case with free room escape games.

One thing I really appreciated was the little red laser dot that appears whenever you tap somewhere and there's nothing of importance. It lets you know that your tap registered. With so many other room escape games, it is unclear whether your tap registered or not, which can lead to much frustrated hyper-tapping.

There were a couple of things that bothered me in the game. One central puzzle has multiple parts to it and they all must be completed in one sitting, as the game won't save your progress for it. This can be very frustrating, as you can't take a break and come back later. So make sure you begin it when you have a good deal of time to spend on it. Also, the "Start" and "Continue" buttons are right on top of each other, and I accidentally restarted my game. I was never prompted to ask if I want to restart; it just did so anyway. So be very careful when you return to the game so as not to make the same mistake I did. But if you get past these few small issues, the game offers good, quality room escape fun for free!

If you're looking for a challenging room escape game with which to waste some time, look no further! This app even comes with both Closed Room 1 & 2!

If you're having some trouble with it, here are some tips:

1. If you're having trouble with the last part of the "tap-to-fill" puzzle, try starting from both ends and meeting in the middle. You want the top three pieces to be changed last.

2. Once you escape Room 1, don't delete the app! Go back to the main menu and you'll see a new option to select, Room 2.

3. In Room 2, think of time when you are trying to solve the code on the computer screen.

I hope that helps. Have fun escaping!
